Default What happened in the last 19 seconds.....?

When Ben was sacked and the Cardinals refused the penalty why didn't the clock start up again? Does anybody know the rule?

I was asking about this one myself...the game clock should have started up with the play clock, PIT got a chance to huddle and take their time, which was maddening. The penalty was DECLINED, so there was no reason the clock should have remained stopped.

I was very disappointed in the officiating. The other play that REALLY bothered me was the 4th & 1 when we wanted to hurry to the line and QB sneak, but the referee TOOK HIS TIME to walk the ball back to the line and spot it. We got the yard, but that kind of stuff is really obvious when it comes to slighting a team.

I agree. Our row was shouting "start the clock". Did the rule change?

YES totally agree. That was almost blantant cheating. The funny thing is. When you have an offensive penalty ie False start, delay, illegal motion, they run 10 SECONDS off the clock in the final minute so they don't do it on purpose to stop the clock. We get a sack and I guess based on the reasoning of the NFL officiating...we should have taken the penalty and let them take 10 seconds off the clock. Remember it happened to us the game against the Rams a couple of years ago, when we were on the 5 yd line. Big false started and by rule the last 7 seconds came off the clock. I agree I think these refs cheat!!! And there is no explanation for it. The whole point of the 10 second run off is when offensive teams commit penalities they get punished for it.

It was a holding call and If the defensive team is behind in the score and commits a foul when it has no time outs left in the final 40 seconds of either half, the offensive team can decline the penalty for the foul and have the time on the clock expire.
They still had a timeout...

It's funny how they can get those things right when it's going against us, huh?

But this was an OFFENSIVE penalty, and the defense DECLINED it...the offensive player was tackled in the field of play, meaning the clock would have been running. The offense does not get a clock stoppage on an offensive penalty!

The same rule apply's for offense if you have a time out left. If it is in the last 4 minutes of the game the clock will be restarted at the snap. If they didn't have a time out left the game clock would have been run down by 10seconds...

PIT didn't have a time out left, they burned time out #3 with 00:52 remaining. The clock should have been run down.
