Too many fans are clueless. Too many fans are fickle. Too many fans are'nt football educated. Week 1 win, kurts the man JJ should get more carries, 12-4 here we come!! Week 2 loss and its kurts fault. Week 3 loss and its Kurt and the coaches. Week 4 loss lets get a whole new coaching staff and JJ sucks at kr's. *** are you kidding me? At games, the Cardinals are in the redzone about to score in week 3 against the rams and I look around the stadium and see Cardinals fans on their feet yelling and cheering. Are you serious? On 3rd down my uncle and his friend and I stand up and yell Defense with a D and a Fence. If the team converts they are hesitant and not sound loud as the first time. Sit down? Screw you!! I'm going to stand and yell while were on defense. THATS WHAT YOUR SUPPOSED TO DO AT A FOOTBALL GAME!! I bring a big Q cut out of poster board and when Q makes a catch or a big play we stand up and yell "Q" Walking in I had a handfull of fans ask me what it was for, even though I am wearing a Boldin jersey!!! When we yell Q someone asked me why we were booing him. I wanted to slap the guy with a hard backhand for stupidity. I'm wearing the mans jersey while holding a letter Q for christ sake!!!
Why are arizona fans so clueless? Dont give me any BS about "if our orginization would win.." no BS. The Bills know how to get loud when its freezing cold and when their team sucks.
Why why why cant some of you people just know what your talking about? Or be more football educated? GET A CLUE!!

Okay, now if you are an AZ Cards fan yourself, do you suck? I'm a little confused. Like you, I agree with you in the fact that there are a lot, and I mean a lot, of fans that you could label, "fairweather", "bandwagon", "clueless" even, but I will say that those of us that came from SDS, which I estimate at around 15k, are pretty knowledgable and know the unwritten rules of being a fan.
Now beyond that, a lot on this board make some pretty irrational comments, but to each his own, everyone is entitled to an opinion. The reality is that greater Phoenix area has grown tremedously in the past 20 years, with a good amount of that growth being from transients who still have some allegiance to their former teams and/or are finally welcoming the Cards. We are an organization that has been in 3 different cities, barely got our own stadium (going with a horrible corp sponsor, IMO, but that's me digressing), and with all that said, have had a hard time building a tradition and foundation (minus losing).
I don't really know many like myself who actually were kids growing up rooting for the Cards. Of course if they never moved to AZ, and we didn't get a team, well I don't think I would be rooting Cards. Seeing football on TV and going to the games are two different things and some are still learning/adapting to the NFL expierence.
It's tough, trust me, I get just as frustrated, but if, and I mean, IF, we can ever find the magic lamp and rub it enough to produce some wins, a culture (winning one) will follow which will then lead to people actually paying attention to the game of football and being more knowledgable over all.

I posted this before, but I remember when Montana went to the Chiefs. I don't know if it was cuz he was there, but they would put on the jumbotron "QUIET ZONE" when the Chiefs had the ball and "NOISE ZONE" when the opponents had the ball. I don't know if he had anything to do with that, maybe they did that before, but my point is a lot of fans have no idea. Not just here, but sometimes fans here lead the way in ignorance. Like the D-BACKS. How in the world can we have a guy hear like Gonzo and NOT chant LOUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!! whenever he came to the plate. He was here for EIGHT YEARS!! Just not enough of us smart fans I guess.....
Too many people here go to games to see and be seen, not to cheer for the team.....

against Jax, Peyton called a timeout cause he was trying to audible but the crowd was too loud and the players weren't able to hear him. He even walked off the field upset at the crowd. so it's nothing new with the crowds having to be quiet at home games, but to the extent of fans not even knowing their own players and their best players at that..that's sad

Good post Zo. The transient population is part of the reason we are able to support teams (cuz of the sheer numbers that live here), but at the same time, they find it all too convenient to root for the AZ team when they are winning, and when we (and I mean all AZ teams) lose, it's too easy to say..."oh yeah, I've ALWAYS liked the (insert team name here), I'm from there..." and they go back to liking that team.
Just ask the D-backs. If Gonzo wasn't leaving, how many 'fans' do you think would have been at Sunday's game?? Maybe the 18,000 that braved the last home stand???

The fans are ok. What do you expect a Cardinal fan to be? Happy all the time?
No, its the organization that is a joke, not the fans. As a fan, all you really want is some hope that your team will be good. These guys have to dig down deep every year to find that hope, and only to be disappointed year in and year out.
I can relate to these people, been there, done that.
Thank God for the Rams!! :bibl:

you've only been supporting the rams since they have been in St.L huh?
you never sat through Chris Everrett and his happy feet?
You never had to deal with the way Georgia Frontierre treated the team when she took over for them and demanded a football only field in Anaheim or else..LOL..

You are correct I didnt suffer through that, and point taken. However, as imperfect as the Rams organization is, they still arent the Cardinals.
I got to see "my" team win a Super Bowl, and buddy that was sweet!

i'm just giving you a hard time. I grew up in SoCal so i tend to give a lot of St.L ram fans a hard time as they didn't have to experience the tough times with the rams as those in OC did.

Seriously I dont understand why this is. I am a native and while I am younger then alot of people here, I have been to alot of football games in alot of stadiums in my life, and the people in Arizona have no idea how to cheer on their team. If anyone reading this needs help, ask away. He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes, he who doesnt as a question looks foolish for a life time(like trying to yell while the Cardinals have the ball in the redzone).

I am just not sure. I wanted to talk about some options this team would have but what is the point when anything that is not "The Cardinals are the best" is ripped apart, and shot down with name calling, screaming, trantrum throwing, and rudeness.
I would give anything to find a place where I can just talk Cardinals football and not have to defend my loyalty to the team after everything I post.

But if you yell and scream at everyone that has a different point of view on a subject you will never see what you can't.
Sometimes I am too negative, and someone makes a positive point that I just did not see.
Sometimes I am too positive and someone makes a negative point that I just did not see.
It is why I come to this messageboard. To read about things I don't get to see in the mass media, and to talk about ALL sides of Cardinal football.
Unfortunately this board is completely over-run with people who are just out to bash anything negative, and have some ridiculous vendetta against there own fellow Cardinals fans.
So some people have given up on the season BIG DEAL! Whoop T do. Why harp on that ?!?!? Who cares ? One guy says this season is over, and it becomes a topic ?
How about we talk about the offensive line? Or the coaching staff? Or how to improve our team ?
Instead is is more like this:
Rugbymuffin78: I don't think Dennis Green is the coach for this team.
The Reply: You stupid !$@#@#$#. You are honestly the dumbest ******* in the entire world. You don't know squat. A real fan supports his team, A REAL fan would never give up. You are a jerk. All you nay sayers are jerks.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't see why this is nessicary. I really don't. It makes this board not worth posting in.
We couldn't talk about the preseason because "It didn't matter, and you are stupid for thinking it does."
We can't talk about the fact we are 1-3 and things are not looking good because it makes you a horrible person and fan, and you are stupid for giving up.
THEN WHAT CAN WE TALK ABOUT. PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME.

What exactly is clueless? Is it yelling for a team that fumbles and throws interceptions and loses but still you think they are going to the playoffs? Is that the clueless you are talking about? Or how about, there's still plenty of games left to go 13-3? How about, if this team plays the way they should they can beat the Bears. They couldn't even beat USC. I think the only people who are clueless are those who can't understand why REAL FANS are sick of losing when they are promised winning. Winning is something the Cardinals are clueless about. Why don't you fill in the Cardinals on winning? :poke:

Where did I say that? Where in my whole post did I say you couldnt be a realist? Re-read the post then get back to me. Its fine to have an opinion, but if your opinion is based off one bad game, then your opinion wont have much ground to stand on and people who are emotional(mad or sad) about the way a player played one game will agree, but any other level headed fan will disagree. Again re-read my post then get back to me.

Jak, your new. So I will take it easy on you. But if your going to read and reply to peoples threads, you should atleast be able to understand what your reading. HEll, you even quoted it, read it again if you dont understand it.
Now you ask what clueless is, and I gave a few very frustrating examples in my first post, but its obvious you didnt throughly read my post. Clueless is standing and yelling while our offense has the ball in a crucial drive in the redzone. Clueless is not standing up and making noise while the Cards are on D. Clueless is not knowing how to act at a football game. This isnt Golf. Dont sit on your hands and spectate. In football while playing at home, you have a chance to help your team win the game with noise and help with momentum. Clueless is asking who is Q and thinking we are booing him. Clueless is calling for a players head after one bad performance.
Now since your whole post was making allegations that I was a kool-aide drinker and an optimist and not a realist find a post to back it up. GO for it. I never said we will be 13-3. I never said we will go to the playoffs after a 1-3 start.
This thread isnt a kool-aide vs negitive fans thread. This is a thread about how un educated people in Arizona are when it comes to football and football games. Thats it.

I can tell by this post you didnt read a **** word of my post. First of all the topic was Arizona fans are a joke, not just Cardinals fans. Second of all you arent even in the US so how could you conceivably understand what I am talking about in terms of fans and their actions in the stadium.
Its ok though, I guess I'm glad to see you stick up for your team and I am happy you rep them from so far away.

Why why why cant some of you people just know what your talking about? Or be more football educated? GET A CLUE!!
You are a good fan. Let me share with you a little story.
I used to take a sign to the Coyotes playoff games (1997ish) and it had a coyote and a brick wall on it and the coyote was howling "Boo-Lin", you remember, the Boo-Lin wall. Anyways, I always sat at AWA in the limited view lower level seats behind the netting. Some 40 something year old guy and his old lady grabbed it from me and I went nuts. My girlfriend at the time went off on them and took the sign back (she made it). They left the game!!! And they were't wearing white either. I know that's a more isolated incident, and at Card games the "others" are even worse.
Let me paint you a picture. I have Season Tickets, and about two seats over, there is a great group of ticket holders. I have my Leinart jersey on, and the girl I'm with is from Minnesota, never been here, is wearing a Leinart jersey. To our right (2 seats and then the aisle), there was a middle aged couple who looked and acted like they were at a diamondbacks game. On my left, a lone single game seat some middle-eastern guy was sitting in, eating nachos the whole game. When Warner fumbled or threw a pic (I can't remember which), and the crowd started chanting for Leinart, he actually asked me, "when is Leinart gonna be back"? I was like, "Huh"? I thought he meant the injury in the preseason and told him it was no big deal and he was ok. Then he asked, "so when is he coming back"? I pretended like my friend was saying something as not to embarrass him any more. Behind me and to the right, a 75+ year old lady and her middle aged son. The old lady never said anything directly, but made all sorts of comments about me as well as some other people around her. I was standing taking a picture in front of her, an hour and a half before kickoff, and I didn't hear what she said, but I heard her son say, "don't worry mother, the game hasn't started yet".
I'm used to the student section at ASU and hockey games, and even though a majority of the students don't have a clue about what's really going on in the game, at least they are enthusiastic. At the ASU game vs. USC last year, ASU was up 21-3. Everyone was SOOOOO happy and excited. I was like, "Crap", we should be up 35-3 but we didn't convert that 4th and 1 (and don't remember what the other one was). I was also like, "****, they get the ball to start the second half, and they're gonna make some halftime adjustments and come right out and score". This girl behind me said, "you think you know everything". Sure enough, they marched it right down our throats and cut it to 21-10.
Anyways, I could go on and on about all of this for hours, but I'm sure I've wasted enough of your guys' time. I just wanted to let you know you're not alone and there are others out there that DO know what's going on, even if it is only 10 out of 63 thousand.

I totally agree with you.

Thats it.
No my friend, Clueless is not understanding that those fans are there to root for the other team and not the Cardinals. You, sir, are clueless. The Cardinals don't have the right to expect everyone from Arizona to be a fan of them just because there is a stadium with their name on it in the state of Arizona. They need to earn fans. They earn fans by winning. Having one or two fair seasons out of eighteen terrible seasons is not showing much effort to that end. The reason people get on here and complain so hard is because they really want to be fans of this team but the team keeps playing so terribly that they can't be. There are so many NFL fans in this town that want to embrace a home team but people get fed up when EVERY year the organization promises improvement and every year the Cardinals lose like losers. Maybe if they went out and won their first six and then went on a losing streak. Then people would see a team that has hope. The wheels fall off the wagon within four or five games and everyone can see the coach even has given up. The Cardinals have not even been competitive in most of their losses. They look like they don't even train or practice during the week. To be honest, I wish a player or two would openly show frustration. :exclamationmark:

The same things happen in my section. I had a guy 2 rows behind me ask me to sit down as the niners were attempting the hail mary to win the game. I've had people ask me not to be so loud because they cant hear their radio. I'm dead serious. Some of the people man, I dont know where they are comming from.

Also I get tired of hearing people ***** about fans like they are the all knowing super duper ultimate fan. Yeah I saw the same thing as you but am just glad that they were chearing for the Cardinals and not against. Unfortunately that won't last long without this organization putting a good product out on the field. There is already a post on this board about people selling their Monday night tickets - should be interesting to see how many Bear fans pollute our knewly built (University of Phoenix) stadium on National TV. You've got no one to blame but this organization Mr All Knowing Super Duper Cardinal Fan!

I do think the fans at the games are at a highschool level compared to other teams(the games I listed earlier in this topic) but I am glad to see them there. They just need to be educated on how to act and waht to do at a football game to truely give us a home field advantage.

Sorry, I'm in Florida and not Arizona. Been a fan for 40 yrs, myself and family use to go to the games in the snow in St. L. when we still lost all the time. If your a fan you should always cheer and support your players and team, even if you don't agree with whose out there. Maybe, some of the fans are so-called new to football and need to be taught what to do. Myself, I do not always agree with coaches descisions or maybe how someone plays that day or even how the owners run the team. But, I WILL ALWAYS BE A FAN and root the Cardinals on. As fans, we should ***** when something is wrong but, be supportive. For those in the stands, maybe those better educated should help instruct those not so well informed. I feel that after the game is when you ***** and complain not during the game! Help those there and lets get the Cardinal red to be a strong force in the NFL. Hehehe maybe the team will catch on too!! Go Cards:Cards logo:

Not all Cards fans suck. But a lot of them unfortunately do suck and their suckiness transfers bad vibes to the team.
They are used to losing.
They always see the negative in everything.
They have unrealistic expectations.
They think constant turnover in coaches will result in winning.
They think having high picks every year will result in winning.
It's hilarious they want us to draft an OT in the draft like that will cure all that ails us. Remember Shelton?
There are no quick cures no easy solutions.
Adding Fisher and Thomas to this team will not make it a playoff team next year.
These negative fans of which there are a lot simply don't get the fact they are contributing to the rotten atmosphere here Green is trying to change.
And the reality is... if Denny Green can't win here which coach is going to??? A man known for turning around teams. Who will be the miracle worker to save this team Fisher no way lol! He can't even save TEN!

I'll agree with you on some points... But, to be honest I think that Denny did his best work in college when he started there. I'm not sure that he is into this team like he should be! There has been lots of bad descisions, not all his fault but it is his responsiblity! There is talent.. but coaching must be done and shown! I feel he has done well below what he is capable of! Maybe he is past his prime and should go back to announcing!!

Denny doesn't keep turning the ball over.
Denny doesn't keep missing blocks.
Yeah if we keep losing Denny will either re-sign or be fired but that isn't going to make the team play better. Fisher isn't going to come in here and suddenly Wilson won't be burnt on a deep pass. Suddenly Wells will start making great run blocks. You think Denny is responsible for that.
If senile Warner doesn't fumble we're 2-2 right now. The reality is ultimately Denny will be gone but will that result in a better team? No it won't. Not at all.
Dropped balls by our Pro Bowl WRs are not Denny's fault!
We'll have another 4 or 5 year rebuilding plan underway more high draft picks and QB controversies etc and big time FAs signings and were will all that lead wins? Nope!
At the end of the day the players have to play.
Like Denny said a 74 year old grandmother knows if you made your block or not. You have to make your block (or tackle or catch etc).

True on those points! But, sometimes a change is needed. I'm not saying that is what is needed but a change on what is his responsability is needed. Play calling and motivation is drastically needed.

The playcalls might have been great but the players are NOT EXECUTING what play call will be a success if the player drops the ball, throws an int or misses a block?????????
I have been to alot of football games in alot of stadiums in my life, and the people in Arizona have no idea how to cheer on their team.
I don't agree with you. The first game in the new stadium fans were pretty quiet. Game 2 was different. I remember a few miscues that were directly related to crowd noise. Including a fumble 5 or 6 plays before Warner screwed up. I have been in a ton of stadiums and the Cards stadium was really loud at times. I took a friend to the game that was a Bill STH. He said the stadium was louder than Rich Stadium.
My only issue was that the noise was inconsistant when the Rams were on defense and they were a little to loud when the Cards had the ball a couple of times. Overall the fans were far better than at SDS and much better than the first game.
Cards fans outnumbered RAMS fans 30 to 1. I had never seen that before.

The only problem i have with this is i think there was a lot of guys on this board who said kurt could of done better after week one. I think i even posted a topic saying kurt should of had a much better game. I do not know how many times ive seen him this season hold on to the ball way to long and i saw it in the SF game. Like edge said we should of killed that team. We might of been able to put up 50.
With this up coming game if matt doesnt piss down his leg and can get the ball of quick i expect a shoot out with the chiefs like i said at the start of the season.
but i really question this teams heart at the moment

We'll be lucky if Matt doesn't get injured. What until he gets his first NFL full on sack, and with our OL it's going to happen a few times on Sunday.

I have only been a cardinals fan since 1995 when I moved here. I will say that I am alittle spoiled as I came up watching Browns games in old Cleveland stadium with some of the best fans around.
That said, anyone who has watched the Cardinals play 1 game to them having played in previous cities knows it is so rare that they are successful when hitting the red zone that it is no wonder people get a wee bit excited at the possibility that this will be the time they finally do it.
I do think we need the scoreboard saying Quiet zone and Noise zone like previous mentioned as it seems like all fans out here in the West and the Southwest only chear when a scoreboard tells them to do so.

Just want to point out. The presenters are American. Mike Carlson works for NFL.com, USA Today sports weekly, amongst others.
He is not a fan of the Cards, and only refers to them as Mexico's team. Apart from that tho, as an analyst he is absolute top drawer, dare I say it better than any of the guys we get on ESPN or Fox.

Where better to retain a 69er than San Fransico California I would not trade 1 Card starter for a 69er starter. would you?

That's never stopped thesmel before.
note to self: DO NOT post on message boards while drunk.
Sage advice that more people might want to consider...
Seriously, though, if the thread has gone more than few weeks without any posts, several questions should be asked before posting a new message in it:
a) Is what I am about to say necessary?
b) Does what I'm about to say add anything to the conversation in this thread?
c) Why am I looking at threads that are weeks old without any updates?
d) Do I want to be that kind of person? You know, the one who looks through weeks-old dead threads for things to which I can respond incomprehensibly? Is that who I am?
e) Have I been sitting at this computer for more than an hour posting messages on a message board? Do I need to get a life?
I think that if all messages went through this sort of filtering process prior to the post being submitted, the quality of the messages here would skyrocket.

I agree with most of the above. However, the "quality" of the messages I could really care less about. Half the reason I read the board here is for the entertainment value of guys like thesmel (wouldnt he be fun to sit next to at the game! SMUSHDOWN!) and even the birdman's misery has its value.
You'll be hard pressed to find any NFL team message board with strictly "high quality football" threads. And if we could find one, it'd be a total snore IMO.

:Cards logo: Ive noticed in years past the cards fans arent bad but a lil quiet. This while at SDS. Ive seen giants, jets, eagle games and the attitude of the fans is pretty intense especially philly. But the monday night game against the bears and week 1 vs sf i can honestly say the fans represented. I saw this on tv and that has givin me hope for the future. Ive noticed alot of young kids at the new stadium so maybe some hold back in a attempt to show decency around kids. IDK. When i went to SDS i was in shock on how polite and nice are even the cowboy fans. Lol no joke the cowboy fans talked minor junk but were some cool people.

Man if you got to any sporting eventin Phoenix they ask you to sit down to be considerate of the other "fans". The problem is that a lot of these sporting events have become corporate events to take their clients or give them to people in their office that don't give a lick about sports|(I know becasue my dad was given tickets and he hates sports but was given free tickets). It is a laid back community and probably not fair to compare to teams on the east coast that have people whose families have been supporting the teams for generations and have teams that have been their 50-100 plus years in the community. You go from 15-20000 people a game consistently in the past to the place is full then their are proabably a lot of new fans that got tickets becasue of the new stadium and a few names Leinart, Edge and such and because home games weren't broadcast in the past and road games sucked people may not know some of the players. I personally can't afford tickets but would love to go. It's funny that way. A lot of the hardcore faans are low-middle class that either can't afford tickets or only get nose-bleeds and some of the people that get the great tickets have the money but may not care about footbal but going for a social or business outing. Those people probably don't know much about football and don't like people being rowdy or standing up in front of them. I'm not saying evryone or even a majority of the people in the lower bowl are like this but may be a part of the reason.

Cardinal football brings out the best and worst of my emotions. it's a mountain valley kind of thing and one of the few, (?)only thing that brings out the 8 year boy in my adult life. I love it . My wife is from Russia and she says it's not football(soccer) it's fighting ball so I drag her to the games and she hasn't seen anything like you GUYS. She doesn't trust the TV but she knows there is many Wild Cards fans in person and for the most part we have a great time and don't end up fist fighting for days when they win like Russian fans. I am couteous in the stands and louder than most. I like to sit down at times but hate it when I can't see a play no matter how high I jump. I was a Browns fan until the Cards moved here and the home atmosphere at SDS was devastating at times even when we won It was a bad experience . I can't imagine what the players felt like. so Flame away but I don't want Young Arizonans ever having to live through that again. I hope they never see their state in that state. :cardinals:
SMUSH DOWN CARDS FANS!

I have been to games in Chicago, Philly, Dallas, Miami, Seattle, Washington, San Fran, Oakland, San Diego and Houston. None of the games above were anything like the fans in AZ are.
Let the fans of those teams go 50 years with one playoff appearance to their credit, then come talk to me about how enthusiastic they are.
Let those organizations go through more head coaches in 15 years than some franchises have had in their entire existance.
Then see how excited they are with a new genre.
Let those fans sit year after year watching a team find epic new ways to lose.
Then you'll be able to ask those fans the same questions.

Ever been to a Suns game? Al these well to do folks? Tennis clapping? First AZ is a state that is considered a retirement state right. SunCity? Sun City west? Two climates a year? Cost a bit of money to live here? Snottsdales wealth? The end zones do pretty good with being fans, but we are not the NY crowd that spits on players and what nots. Az has a little more class and it shows at all sporting events. The Dbacks? That is as quiet as it gets. It's terrible. It also sucks when people around you ask you to sit down.

Hmmm...
Suns are sold out for next season already.
Cardinals are sold out for next season already.
D-backs in 1st place and getting good crowds.
ASU baseball averages 4500 over the weekend for Super Regionals.
Rattlers still drawing over 9000 fans a game with a losing record.
D-Backs drew over 45000 in each game over the weekend.
Yeah, those AZ fans sure are a joke. :)
