Im so worried about facing Barcelona in the Champs League
You should be!!!
Barcelona-Liverpool and Arsenal-PSV will be great games to watch. Both the current Champs and Runner-ups are down to their luck. Arsenal doesn't seem like the mighty team they were last season and neither does Barca. It seems as though Samuel Eto'o's injury hit the whole team pretty hard, but at least his return is near.
Liverpool has some very interesting playerse but I don't know much else about them.
PSV is dominating the dutch league thanks to a powerful offense composed by Kone, Cocu, Kluivert and Farfan, and of course, to their defense, where my boy Carlos Salcido has become a force in the backside.
Can't wait!

Fulham to get Dempsey if he obtains work permit
ESPNSoccernet.com news services
LONDON -- Fulham reached an agreement to acquire Clint Dempsey from Major League Soccer's New England Revolution if the American midfielder obtains a British work permit.
"We've agreed [on] a fee, but it still has to go to the tribunal," Fulham manager Chris Coleman said Saturday. "We've been there before and not won all of them, so we've got to keep our fingers crossed."
Players from outside the European Union must play in 75 percent of his national team's recent games to obtain a work permit. Dempsey has played in 23 matches for the U.S. national team, including nine of 13 last year.
Dempsey scored the only goal by an American at last year's World Cup and was voted U.S. player of the year.
"I saw him about two years ago and then saw him playing at the World Cup for the U.S. Then I went out to watch him playing a few times in the States for New England and have always liked him," Coleman said. "But it's not like he's coming here to sit on the bench. He's coming because we've bought him to make a big impact."
The transfer fee would be $4 million, sources close to the deal told ESPNSoccernet.com.
Pending the work permit approval, the deal for Dempsey will be the largest transfer fee ever paid for an MLS player. The previous high was around $3.5 million (after incentives) for Stern John in 2000. Tim Howard's deal in 2003 totaled around $3 million after incentives.
Dempsey would be the third American player to join the south London team, following defender Carlos Bocanegra and striker Brian McBride, who both arrived at Craven Cottage in January 2004.
The 2004 Major League Soccer rookie of the year, Dempsey has played three seasons with the Revolution and has six goals for the national team.
"Clint's a wide player up front, can play either flank, strong with pace, a good player, good touch," Coleman said.

Yeah in the states the movie was called "Formula 51" I watched it. Kinda lame movie but I couldn't help watching because of the Liverpool setting.
I must admit though that there were some really funny bits in that movie, like Sam Jackson in a kelt! Which they never explained why he had that on.
Back to sports though, Liverpool have had a long drought winning cups in England (The treble in '01 and the FA last year being the exceptions). But how about that '05 CL!!!! NICE!!! I hope to go get my pic taken with ol'big ears!!!! If I can make it to Anfield.
Too bad this year it really doesn't appear we can catch manUre and they're gonna win the prem, those **** mancs!!!
i am glad though that it appears that this year Mr. Mourinho may have finally been exposed as what he really is, a FORTUNATE manager that just HAPPENS to be coaching a club with infinite cash!!!! Just like over here Phil Jackson of the NBA was regarded as being the "ZEN-Master" when he was coaching the Bulls when MICHAEL JORDAN was there in his prime! Hell I can coach an all-star team and win!!

They expalined the kilt bit right at the end when he was playing gold. To wear a kilt legitamately you have to be from a particular family. Jackson's character was part of some clan (through blood) so he claimed his birthright right at the end when he inherited that huge house which was obviously the main residence for the leader of the clan.
On a serious note here is a nice story about Liverpool and this does nothing but confirm what so many people think of the place - whilst a tragedy has just occured Liverpudlians are so low they would rob the house of the family.

That's a horrible story, but honestly that could've happened ANYWHERE! I grew up in tough neighborhoods, Liverpool doesn't scare me. Actually since Guns are hard to get in England I'd actually feel alot safer. I know how to fight and defend myself. Here in the US that's hard to do because you never know when some little punk is going to be packing a gun because they are scared.
Back to sports however. I love Liverpool FC! I've been a fan since I went to Desrt storm and served alongside some crazy British Royal Marines. I hung out with these 4 Scousers that were INSANE!!! They introduced me to Liverpool, playing Videos of the club and letting me read their Newspapers from home.
I also support my National Team and I'm so proud of McBride, Boca, Dempsey, Reyna, Friedel, Howard, Beasley and now Gooch! I will root for them when they are NOT playing Liverpool. Then when they do play LFC I'll root for them to do well, score and not get injured, But I'm still a RED!!

Liverpool isnt necessarily a tough place. It has a reputation of more of a "sneaky" place. Where people dont work and are scammers rather than hard men. People think of Liverpool as a place where you would steal from your best friend.

Beckham in talks with LA Galaxy over MLS switch
David Beckham's representatives are in talks over a move to Major League Soccer franchise Los Angeles Galaxy, MLS spokesman Dan Courtemanche said today.
According to Courtemanche, officials from Anschutz Entertainment Group, parent company of LA Galaxy, are in ongoing discussions with representatives of Beckham, who is out of contract at Real Madrid in the summer.
According to ABC News show 'Good Morning America' the 31-year-old Real Madrid starhas said: 'I've played now for two of the biggest clubs in the world. I've played at the highest level for 15 years, and now I think I need another challenge.'
It is understood the Galaxy have already submitted an offer to Beckham, whose current deal with Real runs out at the end of June, as have other major clubs in Britain and Italy with reports suggesting that as many as 10 clubs have made approaches for the former Manchester United winger.
The future of the world's most famous footballer's has been shrouded in doubt for the last few months, especially after Real coach Fabio Capello this week dropped him from the squad - the first time it has happened to Beckham since he moved from Manchester United in July 2003.
Courtemanche said: 'AEG, and specifically the Los Angeles Galaxy from MLS, are speaking to his representatives and I have seen the reports where clearly he is continuing his talks with Real Madrid and clubs throughout the world. But that is a question for David and his representatives.'
'Reports that he has signed a contract are simply not true at this time.
'It's an ongoing process and clearly if David Beckham decided to sign a contract to play in MLS with Los Angeles Galaxy, we will let people know as soon as that occurs.'
'He has a relationship with AEG, which owns the Los Angeles Galaxy, he is partners with them in his academy, but whether he's in position or not (for a move to LA Galaxy) is a question for his representatives,' Courtemanche added.
'The only understanding I have is that we're one of many that are speaking to his representatives, and we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
'(Talks started this month) under FIFA guidelines from January 1.'
Courtemanche did not know whether it would be likely that Beckham would sign a pre-contract agreement or whether any deal would be concluded in the summer.
Beckham's representatives were due to start a fresh round of talks over a new two-year deal at Real Madrid today.
The 31-year-old former England captain has been in and out of the side this season, and rumours escalated yesterday about Beckham's future following an interview given by Real sporting director Predrag Mijatovic on Sky Italia.
Mijatovic was initially quoted as suggesting Beckham's contract would not be renewed although it later transpired he had not understood the question put to him.
AEG are one of the most influential companies in United States soccer, and own the LA Galaxy, Chicago Fire and Houston Dynamo franchises and this week sold DC United.
This is the best news possible for us over here, apart from if actually retired. Beckham is vastly overrated and I am sorry but I am glad he will be your side of the Atlantic rather than ours. LA is the perfect place for him and his media circus.

He may be ok as I am sure he will be nothing compared to the likes of TO. More of a Kurt Warner story, not that Beckham has any of Warner's virtues, but more like the way Victoria (Beckams wife)will be in the papers more than he will - bit like Brenda.

Becks may be good for MLS in getting attendance numbers up for like one season, but in the long run MLS needs to quit being a place for Europe's best to come and end their careers when they are out of their prime. If MLS wants to be respected as a true option for future soccer stars all around the world it really needs to operate like the clubs in Europe do. All clubs are independently owned, there is youth development, there is a relegatioin and promotion system for clubs to want to strive to win. And they need to compete with teams from other nearby leagues. like Mexico's, Brazils, Argentina's ETC. Imagine how much stronger we'd be then.
I know MLS is only 10 years old, and I know that some clubs have played abroad. What I'm saying though is that until a little kid growing up in Sao Paolo dreams of playing for D.C. United, or the L.A. Galaxy. MLS is just a sad attempt to make money off of U.S. Soccer fans and not all of us are buying it.
It's a shame that my favorite team is clear accross the atlantic and If I'm lucky, I may get to see them play once in my life. The level of play in the MLS just isn't the same.
That being said, I know have to get TIX for a Galaxy game, 'coz my wife wants to see Becks...go figure.

MLS will never be one of the top 5 leagues in the World, but it can certainly be at the top of the next tier down. Beckham might not be in his prime, but he is still good enough to start for 16/17 of the Premiership teams. This signing is huge. Both in terms of talent and the publicity it will generate. MLS is very well run, and the people in charge have gone to great lengths not too make the same mistakes as the NASL did.
They are starting a tournament against the Mexican teams this season, so thats one of your points dealt with (there is also talk of the MLS teams joining the Copa Libertadores, so that would be good news). The clubs have has to be centrally run to start with, and more and more the leagues are giving control to the owners. By 2010 most teams should be running at a profit as well, and nearly all teams will have specific stadiums for football/soccer. Also teams are now starting to develop youth players themselves, as opposed to just using the draft.
In 10 years time the MLS will be in an even stronger position. Attendances are growing, talent is getting better as well. This year there have been the first TV deals where networks are paying to show MLS games.
MLS might not be able to attract the top top names in their prime but neither can any south American league (unless they are home grown).

I've never had much interest in it, but now that there is a chance that Posh Spice might be in the stands, I might watch the LA team. :)

Wasn't a soccer fan until my son started playing. Now that I understand the sport, I LOVE it. It's great to watch and many of you would find it has some similarities to our football. If the Suns aren't playing, I don't watch basketball. I'd rather watch soccer with players that I don't know. It does help my son has been very successful at it so far.....

I like soccer when the World Cup is on...but other than that, it doesn't matter because the only good leagues are in Europe.

That's why you get Fox Soccer Channel so you can watch games from the Premiership, Italy, Argentina, etc. Good stuff!

I dont't watch soccer as much as I used to, since I've switched my focus to NFL almost completely, but I do like to see a good game every now and then. Thankfully, here we get coverage of most leagues - English 1st and 2nd, German 1st and 2nd, Italian, Spanish, French, and a couple of bigger games from countries all around.
Watched the spanish derby Real Madrid - Barcelona a couple of days ago, it was a great game.

And its why I gave the link for you guys so you can get one of our shows from the UK each week.

The simple fact is that the US stole the name "football" and instead used the term "football" for a game in which players throw and catch a actual "handball." The ball only touches the foot for fg's, punts, kickoffs. If "football" really wanted be considered football it should of gave more points for foot related scores rather than running or catching scores. So hence the name "football" contradicts the actual sport. For Americans to actually accept soccer(futball) they would have to accept that the NFL (football) is actually handball and thus denounce the NFL's superiority over futball(soccer). To steal a sports name and act like you invented it can only be done with having delusions about the sports originality. I love the NFL and Cards to the fullest but I'm not that naive to believe that the NFL is real (football). Soccer will always be the true (futball) whether we Americans accept it or not. So America just admit we stole the sports name for our own countries glory caused we sucked @ soccer(futball). Go Liverpool
