View Full Version : Greatest Finish Ever!
I know it's not Big Red related, but did anyone watch the end of the Fiesta Bowl? By far the best finish to a football game ever!! Boise State with some of the most creative play calls I've seen college or pro. They win 43-42 in overtime! Definitely check out the highlights if you didn't see the game.

Winning coaches are willing to take risks and have confidence in their team. I mean line up the QB on 4th and 2 as a wideout and throw a pass to some unknown player with your WR. Freaking go for the win instead of another overtime and call what else? O yeah the freaking Statue of Liberty play. How often have you seen that play called?

Oh, my gosh!
I saw tonight's Fiesta Bowl Game as well, and that was HANDS DOWN the BEST Fiesta Bowl finish I've EVER seen!
Eek! And you know what else... a BSU player PROPOSES to a BSU Cheerleader! Can this get any better?!

That was not a game.... it was a movie. Underdog team goes in and starts to roll on the favorites. Favorites come storming back... suddenly our heroes get tough, and it looks like they are going to squeak out the win. Then the powerhouse villains roll and with time running out take the lead in the game.
Our heroes, undaunted come back and score on a miracle play at the end... OVERTIME! Villains score... all hope is lost.... 4th and 2. TD!!!!! Showing tremendous courage our heroes try one last desperate play.... BRONCOS WIN!!!!
Oh and to top it off one of our heroes gets the girl in the end (BSU RB Ian Johnson proposed to his girlfriend a head cheerleader at BSU).
That was no game... it was a Disney movie....

PS Hopefully this game spells the end of the BS... I mean BCS system and we can move on to some playoff format next year.

We'll be watching that one again on ESPN Classics! I'd like to watch the whole game again right now.
Talk about playing well in clutch situations. First they give up the lead on the pick. Then they pick up first downs on 4th down. Then the amazing 4th and 18 gadget play. Then the half back option on 4th down. Then the most ridiculous statue of liberty play ever attempted. I mean it's ballzy to simply try those plays let alone pull them off.
We may have watched the best 1 hour of football in the history of the game!!

Heh heh! Nice job! That was a very creative post.
Now, I swear... if BSU doesn't get ranked in the Top 5 next year, something's SERIOUSLY wrong with the NCAA.
Think about it! BSU is 13-0, they were ranked #10 coming into this game, and, most importantly, they CRUSHED the spirits of OU.

We may have watched the best 1 hour of football in the history of the game!!I don't think I have ever seen a better football game in my 42 1/2 years of existence. That playcalling was unbelieveable and to come back after throwing an interception for a TD you got to say the QB had heart too. I would say a majority of the NFL QB's would have folded under that type of pressure.

If Ohio State loses, could Boise State get number one in the AP Coaches poll? Split National Championship? One more reason to have a playoff.

That was AMAZING! The 2-pt conversion left me breathless as he ran in there literally untouched.
Very nice to see Boise St. win it too, I love rooting for the underdogs.

Pick any team sport, throw in the pressure of the moment, the quality of the opponent, and the fact that you are attempting a play that you rarely run and somehow you convert 3 trick plays in succession. I say the greatest clutch performance I've ever seen in any sport!

I'm glad I had the foresight to record it :)
Sometimes you don't and then something like this happens and you are glad you did.
I'm sure it will be on ESPNU or ESPN Classic very soon!!!
I think you can buy the highlights on ITUNES as well...
Great game plus I picked Boise State in a pool! It was the greatest finish awesome!!!

As much of a physical game that football is its amazing how the mind comes into play. Those plays were just flat out phenominal. We were watching the game in utter amazement. Wow, what a show. One of the most incredible games ive ever seen in any sport in all the years Ive been watching.
When they lined up for that last 2 point conversion we were saying that they must have something innovative up their sleeve and boy did they! When they lined up the trips receivers to the right and because they had run that play many times in the past and always thrown it to one of the wide outs, the statue of liberty play was just too good!
When he faked the throw and stuck the ball behind his back with his left hand it was beautiful. The RB just waltzed in from there. One of the guys I work with is a die hard OU fan. He was texting me throughout the game. He was going crazy and said hed smoked more cigarettes watching that game than in a long time and almost wore a hole pacing on his carpet. After that last play there were no more texts from him. I didnt have the heart to call him!

Boise St. deserved a shot at the Championship imo, reguardless.
Being undefeated when no one else but Ohio St. should be enough.

Before tonight, I wouldn't agree, but Boise St. proved me wrong. Of course remember when Rutgers beat Louisville? What happened the following week?
I just hope OSU kills FL and I would pay good money to see BSU take on OSU.

1) The Fiesta Bowl is consistently good EVERY YEAR, very few bowls can say that.
2) Boise St. won't start in the top 10 next year. Wisconsin will probably be rated higher than BSU. Every mid-major team will have to work their way into the BCS (Big Crock o'****), no matter what they do the year before. If you're already in a BCS conference, that won't be a problem for you.
3) The only reason BSU got to play this game is because of the newly-created BCS championship game; otherwise this wouldn't even be a BCS game.
4) Koetter's fired and headed to Miami; Hawkins is down in Colorado rebuilding; but it's Petersen that gets to hoist the big trophy in Boise. What goes around comes around...

Even the announcers were saying that this game may be a catalyst to a playoff. IMO I don't understand the logic as to why there isn't one. Some say it's because of the money colleges receive from bowl games. I say p'shaw to that because you can incorporate some of the lesser bowls into the playoff system and make those lesser bowl games mean something. And to be honest, I watched a few plays of some of the lesser bowls(Poinsettia Bowl, Papajohns.com Bowl, ect.) and saw more empty seats than not. It's really not a hard concept if you think about it.
Oh, and yes, that was probably one of the most amazing games I've ever seen as well.

Regarding #2, you're most likely right KJ. And IMO, all the more reason a playoff system NEEDS to be developed...

If Ohio State should lose, of course Florida will be crowned, but BSU would have my vote. The reason, besides the obvious of them being the only undefeated team, is that if Okla hadn't got hosed at Oregon they may well have been one of the two teams playing in the BCS Championship Game.
IF Ohio State wins next week, that might be the best thing for Boise State since Florida would have 2 losses and fall a bit in the polls. It would assure BSU of a top 3 one would think. IF Florida wins they would probably still put Ohio State ahead of Boise State also.
Also my understanding is the BCS system is in place by contract for several more years if we like it or not.

I normally don't post the same thing in two topics, but this belongs here...
Bob Stoopid has no one to blame but himself for that loss...OU's never seen a statue of liberty or a hook & ladder play, are you kidding me??? Boise St. ran that EXACT PLAY vs. Idaho, don't they watch film in Norman? But that's secondary to the most colossal failure of his coaching history, and the one I absolutely blame him for - as soon as you lose the coin toss and have to go on offense in OT in a bowl game, you MUST go for two. Consider this: your all-star RB just ran 25 yards UNTOUCHED to the end zone, and you're too scared to go for two from the 2.5 yard line? Playing for the one will not win the game, it only gives you a false sense of hope. Stoopid owes the entire state of Oklahoma an apology for not trusting Adrian Peterson to get two points in OT.

I absolutely loved the playcalling by BSU. That's what we need in the Cardinals organization. A coach that isn't scared. Had those 2 trick plays gone bad for BSU I still would have nothing but respect for the man. it takes guts and a little gambling to succeed I am so glad BSU won that game. Because I'm a Cards fan, I automatically root for the underdog, last night was a good one for the underdogs! way to go Boise state!
I ******* fell asleep and missed the ending.... This has got to be on classics this week.

It was kind of nice to see college football's highest paid coach get his shorts handed back to him after the atomic wedgie that BSU's Petersen gave him... :lollollol:
Well, now he's #2 in $$$ behind Saban.
