Are you sure that's the max? Or were you trying to LINK to a pic that had to large of a FILE NAME???

yeah, if you go to the CP and check out the details of what's allowed for an avatar pic... you'll see size and file size restrictions. I just want to make a 30kb or so animated gif. I've seen one or two animated gif avatars here but with the current restrictions, they have to be really tiny files.

30-50kb file sizes is still relatively small compared to what's allowed at other forums... I'm hoping the mods will see this as a reasonable request!

seahawks.net and the official bucs site allow up around 120kb!

Oh, I see. I have uploaded bigger pics but I guess instead of it telling you that it's too big, it just resizes it automatically for you. That definately rules out a cool .gif I wanted to make...

so there's two of us already

My problem was that I made an animated gif... well actually about 23 of them but they are all too big on filesize so the forum accepted the first frame only. And so I kept my current avatar for the time being. I was able to knock my gif down to 28kb but only with serious loss of image clarity. Just a 6 frame 100x40 image!

Off subject, have you seen how cruel the Bucs fans are to each other at their forums? Great entertainment anyway.

I don't really check out other MB's except the Bears once and Seahags. They must be really p.o.'s though 'cause their team sucked more than us this year.

I haven't made any gif's lately, but was thinking about doing one not sure of what, but even with only 30 that's not that good of quality.

Look how small this one is and it's 276k... http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m192/skinsketcher/GIF/animated260.gif

This one's 580k http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i233/rachel1919/tv%20shows%20and%20logos/animated260.gif

Personally, I think 400k is a better option for us but have no idea if they could do that???

They work, see sixdart's profile. The trick, for now, is to get it under 19.5k and it will work. If it's over that, the forum will use the first frame. BORING!

I hope the admins will give us a shot at this. If it gets out of hand, so be it and take our kb's away. Since most of the visitors are regulars... the gifs will be cached anyway and we probably won't see a nano second of delayed loading times.

What say ye, mods?

I love the fact that if you ask a simple question around here, and good questions at that, you never get a freaking answer.

HOW HARD IS IT TO GIVE US AN ANSWER ADMIN????

I've asked questions before, but just got a deafening silence.

We have read this thread. Please give us sometime to look into this matter and we will see whether or not avatars can be changed (file size and pixel size).

Please be patient and check back for updates.

This is great news, I'll make all sortsa Cards related avatars if it all works out. I think the dimension limits are ok, just the file size limit that is reminiscint (sp) of the early 90s when we were all on 28.8k modems

Unless your on dialup. You don't need 400 or 500 kb to trick your avatar out. My basic new logo old logo animated avatar is only 12kb and took less then 5 minutes to make. Fortunately I have a bunch of flash animations of the cardinal head I created over the years to export to gif.

they can just make it so we can link an avatar from a site that hosts the image.

then they don't have to worry about file size.

Like I said, unless you are on dialup. 2 500kb signature images = about 4 or 5 minutes to download over dialup.

Now we're negotiating!

I'd be happy with 100kb! or anything above 19.5kb.... any amount is making headway.

Well, we got it changed.

Size is 80 pixels for height and 180 for width.

File size is now 300kb

They also added a feature that if an individual does not have an appropriate avatar, it can be deleted, and that individual can lose his privileges of having a custom avatar.

Have fun and enjoy!

I'll make a bunch and offer 'em out to whoever wants them. Thanks a ton!

If anyone wants a personalized one... send me a private message and tell me what you'd like to see.
