This is a great hire for my raiders we need offense becuse our defense is there lane is the ex qbs/wrs/OC/playcaller at usc. Lane is a discpile of Jon gruden, norm chow and peter carrol. Lane is a younf fiery coach and is the son of long time DC monte kiffin the father of the tampa 2 defense and is still in tampa as the DC.

Who heard of Cowher or Gruden when they were hired? Definately a good fit for the Raiders. Besides, it would be hard to do worse than 2-14.

P.S. DUSK884 Thanks for the avatar.

Got a good background then with Gruden, Chow, and Carroll.

One offensive mind, one defensive mind, and one...well...VERY strong mind.

Good luck: can't get worse then 2-14 :ok:

The Raiders problem have nothing to do with who they hire at Head Coach. The biggest problem they have is Al Davis. The game has really passed him by Coaches know it. That's why they couldn't get the coach they really wanted last year Sean Payton.

Secondarily, they have idiots on the team. MOSS and PORTER the most talented players on the team are numbers 2 and 3 behind TO as NFL WR *****-hole of the year.

Third, their offensive line was offensive. IMO they were the worst O-line in football.

Good luck to the kid. He's going to need it.

All that said they beat the CARDS badly last year. How did that happen?

I have the feeling he will end up back at USC before long....from the sublime at one level to the ridiculous at the next!

It's not like the Raiders were a good team when he got there. Usually you give a guy a couple of years to get it going in the right direction. And the point that I was making is that if Kiffin has a similar season as Shell did, why wouldn't they fire HIM? Rizzock was insisting that Kiffin would be around for 2-3 years no matter what.

I'm all for giving a guy a chance but he lost control of the team.

Consider a few things.

They brought in an offensive coordinator that was out of the game for a decade who immediately put in the old vertical offense complete with 7 step drops on almost every passing down!!!! YEOW!The Raiders Played most of the season without their #1 and #2 receivers. Moss and Porter were either suspended or indifferent for most of the season.(What would the Cards look like with Q and Fitz gone for 70% of their games) They played most of the year with an inexperienced line and a Second Year QB. That's why you score 10 TD's and are last in the NFL in every meaningful offensive category.

It wasn't all Art but the attitude for that team had to change. They need to get rid of those two cancers and get a new owner. Addition by subtraction.

On your point I don't think they will fire Kiffin either. Davis hates admitting he was wrong about anything. They almost didn't fire Shell just to spite a reporter. The old man has lost it!

rizzock, I can't believe I'm saying this....you're a nice *choke* Raiders fan *choke* but you need to cut with the three SB rings crap.....that is ancient history - much like that relic Al Davis. Sorry to say that selecting Lane Kiffin as your new coach is not going to help....I was at a Trojan Club dinner last night, and when the discussion came up about Lane going to the Raiders - the entire room broke out in applause. He was just not getting the job done at USC.....so you hire him as HC for an NFL team....:garfield:

Two problems:

1. You are living in the past: that gimmick has been taken by the Dallas Cowboys fans. Upon hearing this they will drown out your team's fine accomplishments with their own and then some, such as how many cocaine using players they had and how many petty talent-less thugs they possessed.

2. You are ona Cards forum bro. Hardly the place to be FLAUNTING your RAIDAHS bowl wins IMO.

Thanks and Peace out A-Town!

well at least we have a past to look at....well a good one....we will be back...and it will be sooner than people expect. we have a better Defence than the cards and the eagles...all we need is some offence and boom...we are at least at .500

also the forum on this board is nfl teams..so we can talk about any team here..so its really not a big deal right?

this coaching change it great...i hated art shell the first time around..hated him more the 2nd... Kiffin will bring us back

Hey I'll give you that Oakland finished 3rd in defense which is outstanding alone but more so impressive when you consider they were 2-14 and had no offense. Oh and the bolded part...come on ONE year you've had a better defense then my team! We slipped away into oblivion because we couldn't stop the run...that will change, and it better with Dhani Jones and outside linebacker. And that useless piece of **** Bunkley better get is **** in gear.

My fault: one one hand you are right it's just like the Boys fan example I threw out it's great to have the history but when history can become your only defense in an argument about the now it gets pretty old.

You should come to the Bills board and tell everyone how worthless Bunkley is...there're still people pissing and moaning about us not taking him.

Oh, and Bills>Raiders. Our offensive ranking wasn't impressive, but if you look at the last 8 games....watch out. We can break the game open at any time. Now if only McGahee would learn how to run, we might be great, but relying on the Losman-Evans Express TD delivery service seems fairly effective. And our defense was in the middle of the pack and in the top ten(I think) of points allowed..

You want me to?

I do not call 13 tackles and one hurry for the 14th overall pick in the draft good at all. In fact, that's not even average. And couple that and his attitude needed re-adjusting and I would not be surprised if he ends up like another Florida State tackle we picked up as a first rounder in 2000 in Corey Simon. All happy when he was doing quite well, and then Simon turned and left town because he thought he was going to sign away the bank.

Maybe I am wrong: maybe I will one day eat crow. But for now, Bunkley is a BUST. If they had wanted a DT so bad, Haloti Ngata was only two picks up but by that point Baltimore and Cleveland made their epic 12th and 13th overall trade.

Well, that was Buffalo's desicsion to take Donte Whitner with their first pick in the 1st round at #8 and then NC State DT John McCargo later in the round. Do you think them picks were good ones for the future or the now? I personally thing Buffalo had a killer draft this past season, more so with the Whiter, Ko Simpson, and Ashton Youboty picks. Building for a great future.

Take care

Oh, I think we're still at the point where our drafts are aimed at now rather than later, no matter what you'll hear from the FO. This draft too will be with the future in mind, I'm betting. I think both Ralph and Marv plan on being around longer than most think they do. We certainly aren't doing a haphazard job. It's why I think we may end up taking Okoye, because it gives us greater freedom to shift our tackles around. Kyle Williams(our 5th round pick and a starter) has been asked to put on 5-10 pounds(295 coming out of college I believe) so it seems they're making him a NT, and they said earlier they felt McCargo would play the three-gap at first but could move to 1-gap later on.

One thing I'd like to illustrate while I'm on my current spiel....we may be willing to pay Nate. Marv promised him no franchise tag, and somehow I think there's more to it than we've heard. And McGahee wants a lucrative extension and I don't think he'll get it...

I love to see posts on here from Raiders fans. They prove what I have been telling anyone who would listen for years: that hallucinogens are a steady staple of the Raiders fans diet. Just take a look at the black hole in whatever they call that stadium. I rest my case. If the Raiders fans take so much pride in their history, then they need to try a little humility in the bad times. The reality NOW is: your team stinks!

Thanks Raiderfan.

You got someone from us who didn't do much here but had 16 sacks (right?) in his first year in Oakland in 2005: Derek Burgess.

That surprised me. I think Kirk Morrison and Stuart Schweigert are going to be great too, perhaps SS even is now.

Look I'm a Raidah fan too but stop with the past stuff. Today the Raidahs are horrible. They have a bad stadium, senile/controlling owner and a collection of misfits (that don't produce) as players. The last playoff appearance was a blowout in the SB. I luv the team and am proud of what they used to be but if you have to watch ESPN Classic to see the teams last Offensive TD there is a problem.

Don't be a Cowpie fan if you want to live in the past pull out that SB Sports Illustrated DVD and watch it. Presently the Raidahs stink.

Two problems:
1. You are living in the past:
2. You are ona Cards forum bro. Hardly the place to be FLAUNTING your RAIDAHS bowl wins IMO.

From a Raidahs fan, the Raidahs stink and the team, wait I mean group of players wearing silver and black helmets should be ashamed to pick up their checks.

I don't think FLAUNTING SB wins bolsters an arguement anyway. IMO saying it is a concession that your team is awful and going nowhere. Otherwise you would be talking about the here and now!

well at least we have a past to look at....well a good one....we will be back...and it will be sooner than people expect. STOP IT!
WE WHO? What position do you play?

The team will not be back until DAVIS is gone. Nobody wants to coach the team because he is so controlling.

RAIDER FAN HERE: Acknowledging my favorite football teams is the worst professional sports franchise in the United States. Humble enough?

BTW, while some of the fans in the stadium are degenerates that is not an accurate depiction. Many of the fans that dress up in all that crap are accountants, businessmen and investors of the silicon valley. Don't get me wrong that is a hostile environment but things have changed for the Raiders on the field and off.

I can think of some worse words than that. They f******* suck! But they've been down before and they will be good again. The sun doesn't shine on the same dog everyday.

Yes as you posted above in the multi quote, that **** is for Dallas fans.

Even the 49ers and Steelers fans are pretty good overall with their past success. Especially 49ers fans: I still have some Steelers fans who tried to say they "deserved" SB 40. Riiiiiight.
