View Full Version : Now is the Time: Great Lawn, Green Belt, S.A.F.E. Security

Now is the time for STH's to ask the Cardinals:
Why to tailgaters of the game only win if they are on the "Great Lawn"?
Hundred of fans tailgate elsewhere and put most of the "Great Lawners" to shame. I don't recall being asked where I would like to park by the Cardinals. They just put us in the Green lot. There is no way that our group could lug our equipment form the Green lot, to the other side of the stadium.
Where is the Green Belt that we were hearing about during construction?
Instead of those walkways in the parking lot... you know, the ones with the red trees and ROCKS that nobody uses to walk on.. why not tear them out and put grass in there so that tailgaters can tailgate without harassment. We can just back in and set up our stuff....
Why are tailgaters constantly harassed by S.A.F.E. Security ?
At every game, the rules changed. Where we are directed to park. In San Diego on New Years, we noticed that there wasn't a line of security people telling fans where to park, and somehow, the game went on. We like to park in the same spot for every game and they change direction at every game. Our tents seem to bother security and the Cardinals. WHY? Provide us and area to tailgate that is reasonable or at least ask us where we would like to park. The safety hazard excuse by security is REAL THIN, as is our patience.
Why didn't the Cardinals put permanent bathrooms in the lots instead of porta-johns?
What a farging eyesore. And the smell....
Anyone got anything to add, I'll bet you do...
Welcome to Glendale, now get the hell out....

I don't know about the rest of them but this one is cost. Over the long run it's far cheaper to have porta johns show up on an as needed basis than to build and maintain a bathroom facility.
You don't have to maintain them, repair them from vandalization, route plumbing and electrical, pay for and store extra cleaning material, soap and supplies and, they don't permanently eat up real estate.
Porta-johns you put where ever they need to be and get rid of them when done.
Also, given the nature of the area they are used in, you can't realistically guess-timate how many of which gender toilets will be needed.
For example: If you have build 20 toilets some, say 10, are male and 10 female and thats that.
If you have 20 porta johns you have holes for use regardless of gender.
As far as smell? Bathrooms being used by hundreds of people during and event who are drinking beer, eating hot-dogs, bbq, chili, etc. aren't going to smell pleasant either.

We never had an issue tailgating, even when parked in the lots. Just don't encroach into the next space and don't spill out too far into the driveway - the only two rules they seem to care about. That seems reasonable.
Now if you want to complain about the joke that is the parking/exit procedures, I'll join you.

Just about as close as you can get to the gate. We got front row tailgating each week and both cars always allowed to park together with two canopies....never has a problem, except getting out........Come to think of it we just might be closer to the entrance when we tailgate than most other teams and stadiums.............

My canopy was pushed so far in by security that I had a tailgate party in my trunk while others took up 2-3 stalls with their canopies. Parking should just be a free for all because the 16 year old security staff sucks!

I agree that they should ask if you want in the west lot and easy access to the lawn. I built a cart to haul my stuff over.
The only thing that I would add is why open the lot 4 hours before kickoff? You hardly have any time to set up, cook, eat and drink, and load up. Should be six hours at the LEAST. And really they shouldn't have any time frame. And the lots close an hour after the game? HAHAHA we wait at least an hour before we start to leave due to the traffic.
When it was time to issue passes, the Cards had a window open to allow anyone to change lots depending on availablility.. I took advantage and moved to Lot F on the grass.. Very minor problems during the year, and the ones we did have got resolved..

Ditto that....The only game we had issue with was the MNF game, and that was because EVERYONES schedule was off since most were coming from work.....Whatever...Very minor. The only thing I don't like is that they NEVER took a Tailgater of the game from any other spot then the Great Lawn. We're on a GREAT LAWN in Lot F. We've got ball fields, field goal posts, and a WHOLE LOTTA fun goin' on. Let's get it movin' Cardz!

Right there with ya. I've only tailgated in F but visited other places a few times and I think F is the place to be. You didn't mention the bathrooms - the women love those! We live in the valley of the sun, so we should be fine most times but if we ever get a good Phoenix rain - you know, 3 inches in 20 minutes - that place will be a mess!!! I suppose it's just a matter of time.

Lot F has grass? I have never been around to that side. I park in lot G, which is basically westgate.
I looked at the pdf map of and didn't see any mention of grass. I was thinking about moving over to the West lot just because of the great lawn, but have heard horror stories about traffic when leaving the game.
So what is lot F like? Ball fields and goal posts? Thats cool if that is all there. I don't see any mention of it on the cards website though.
Do you have any pics of lot F?

West lot is the place to be. Just tailgate after the game till traffic dies down.

I guess you could drive by and look for yourself. I've entertained visitors from other NFL cities - Washington, KC, Dallas, Chicago - and they all have been to many NFL cities and tailgates as have I. Each commented that they've never seen a better place to tailgate, great facility, really good for kids (or adults that like to throw the ball around), etc. We always arrive at 9:00 and are among the last to leave so traffic has never been an issue. I just prefer being on grass and parking there is easier than parking on asphalt and hauling all your stuff to the great lawn. The only disadvantage is they have that band on the GL which I like. Oh well, trade offs all over I suppose. No matter where you pick to tailgate you'll have a good time with friends.

lot f is awesome. much, much, much cooler on the grass than the pavement. we'll see if the Cards recognize our area or if they stick to the great lawn.

I have a feeling the Cards know about Lot F.. The great lawn is more of a family atmosphre, where as Lot F is the man's tailgating on grass.. They gave us a good place to go nuts, get drunk and wild out.. I hardly see kids in Lot F.. The kids area is the great lawn..
I love to tailgate and had two issues that got worse as the year went on:
1. Forced to park in a certain spot. We should be allowed to park where we want! We are meeting friends and want to park near each other.
2. Forced to move canopy to where it was even with our rear tire. They say it was fire code but I don't buy it. I have tailgated at many stadiums and it was never an issue.
3. Too few porta potty's.
The Cardinals need to be "fan friendly" when it comes to tailgating. The diehards are ones that tailgate and you shouldn't piss them off.

The only problem I have is the time to tailgate. In lot G it's only 3 hours before the game. I have been to Chargers games twice and both times we got there between 8 and 9 a.m. Cardinals games they make you feel like cattle, get you in and out as fast as possible. They need to allow more time for tailgating PERIOD. When I spend more time driving to the game than the time spent tailgating and drinking, that is a major problem, well for me at least.

We are some of the first to arrive in the west prefered and we get there 4 hours before the games...........I think leaving has been a problem because we lost so often everyone just wants to get out of the parking lot. This year more people will be staying in the lots after the games because we will win more...............more wins, happier crowd, people hanging around

I agree, that's just being smart. There are 30 events there all year.

Me and a friend showed up for the first game at midnight before the game to start tailgating but were turned away. Told that we couldn't even wait at the gate. We worked it out so we could wait at the gate but they wouldn't let anyone in till four hours before kick off....we waited there for hours to get in.
As far as tailgating or even hanging out after the games sorry, you have to leave 1 hour after the game ends. I was "kicked out" a couple of times after games this year. The time limits they have on tailgating is definately a problem that needs to be adressed.

Lot F is the deal. Never had any problem. The issue I have, lot F being a youth sports field, people were still bringing in glass bottles, you would see broken glass etc, cigg butts. Great for that little tyke to practice in. Can you see some 12 year old getting up from being tackled, cut up arms and ciggerette butt stuck in his face mask..

All of which I found to be thoroughly explained in the parking materials package.
I agree about the time for tailgating. When we arrive the parking people are all standing around staring at us waiting for the exact time to open. That's silly if they are all there why not open. I also don't understand why they change the parking rules for every game. It all depends on who is directing traffic that game as to where we park.
I think that TSA not the Cardinals are running the parking and stadium, but whoever it is needs to do a better job for the fans! It seems that if you are having a good time the parking and S.A.F.E security put a kibosh on it.
