Scottsdale police to aid Cardinals security

Ari Cohn, Tribune

Scottsdale police officers soon could be patrolling Arizona Cardinals football games in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

The Scottsdale City Council this week approved a mutual-aid agreement with Glendale. The West Valley city does not have the police manpower to provide security at events in the stadium without the aid of other cities, Scottsdale officials said.

City Manager Jan Dolan said such mutual aid agreements are not uncommon.

“There are times throughout the Valley when we assist other agencies and they assist us,” she said at Tuesday’s council meeting.

Glendale will be responsible for paying the officers and for any workers’ compensation or liability claims that might arise from their service at the stadium, she said.

Dolan said the Scottsdale Police Department has the staffing both to police the community here and to provide outside service for special events.

“The police chief has assured me we have the capability to do both,” she said.

sounds good to me as long as they aren't remotely close to being like the maricopa sherriff dept.
