They may have to. Apparently the Broncos could be after him or Calvin Johnson.

BRONCOS ALMOST TRADED UP TO NO. 2
We mentioned several days ago that a team that we did not name nearly pulled off a trade with the Lions for the No. 2 overall pick in the draft.
We can now report that the team was the Broncos.
The package would have included linebacker Al Wilson, who was linked on Thursday night to a potential trade to the Giants by Adam Schefter of NFL Network. But Wilson's agent, Peter Schaffer, tells the Associated Press that a deal that would send Wilson to New York is not imminent.
"It's a little premature (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2808991)," Schaffer said. "There are a number of teams that are interested in Al -- Al is a player who is definitely in high demand -- but no decision has been made even whether Al will be traded. There's a number of moving parts. We're just going to take it one move at a time."
Schaffer was hired recently by Wilson because his former agent, Norm Nixon, is no longer certified by the NFLPA to represent players.
Wilson, a five-time Pro Bowler, apparently is on the trading block because the team has overspent in free agency.
If the Broncos were to snag the No. 2 overall pick, they likely would be targeting left tackle Joe Thomas, another Schaffer client. They clearly aren't in the market for a first-round quarterback or running back, given the addition of Jay Cutler and Travis Henry in the past 12 months. The other possible pick for the Broncos at No. 2 would be receiver Calvin Johnson.

I like Joe. But trading up just for him? No thanks. If anything, I also believe that any other team trading up would be after Calvin Johnson anyway.

Give up #5, #38 & #69 and you may get up to #3 and Thomas may still be gone.

Give up #5 and you could move back to #15 and get #46 & #77 and know that OT-Staley or another semi-stud DE is available.

I'm trading back if possible ... not up!!!

Why in the Hell would we trade up for a chance at Joe Thomas when you have Levi Brown, Tony Ugoh, Joe Staley and Ryan Harris in which we will have the pick of one of those if we traded down and only if Adrian Peterson or Calvin Johnson were NOT available at our #5 pick. I would even pick Levi Brown over Joe Thomas at our #5 spot if we were there and both are available.

I read on the Bronco's message board this morning, that the Giants are offering 2 2nd rounders. 07 and 08. The Lions would trade 2nd overall for Bronco's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in this years draft.

Could be they want JT.

bottom line is, #5 is a GREAT pick and we're going to get a GREAT football player at that spot if we just pick the BPA. the WORST player we can end up with is Joe Thomas! what a blessing!!!!

heck because we're definitely not picking a QB, we're guaranteed to get at least the 3rd best player available by remaining at our #5 pick (assuming jamarcus and brady account for 2 of the 5 best players)

we're sitting on a goldmine at pick #5!!!! go cards :redtowel:

Thanks for that post Saturn, but I would think Denver might want Calvin Johnson since Rod Smith is getting along in years. They want to give Cutler lots of playmakers. Now that it looks like Oakland might take Johnson themselves, Denver is talking to others about Wilson. Just a hunch.
