NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Veteran defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy signed a three-year contract with the New Orleans Saints on Thursday after playing for Arizona last year.
The 6-foot-1, 305-pound former Ole Miss lineman has started 26 games over the past two seasons for the Cardinals and the New York Giants.
"He will improve our depth," general manager Mickey Loomis said. "A player of his experience is a welcome addition to our club."
In 11 games in 2006, Clancy had 37 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.
Clancy, a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., was Pittsburgh's third-round pick in the 2000 draft and spent his first five seasons with the Steelers.
Meanwhile, the Saints on Thursday released rookie long snapper Pat MacDonald, who signed with the Saints as a free agent in April.

I have family in NOLA, and keep track of the Saints, so I am glad they got him. He will help that team. They might go to the Super Bowl this year, by the way, so Clancy may be real glad the Cards cut him.

Clancy had to see the writing on the wall as the Cards drafted Branch and moved to the 3-4. I'm glad he handled it as a professional without complaint and so I too am wishing him good luck.

He did handle it right, and the Cards handled it wrong. Good luck to him in NO. We knew he would land on his feet, and fast......

Good for NO, that should shore up one of their key weaknesses from last year. Now if only they can find a second cornerback...

what's wrong about evaluating him through the OTA's and then releasing him with time to sign with another team before training camp? I think it was classy veteran respect, we are not done cutting talented players as I said throughout the draft when everybody wanting more picks where they gonna fit on the final 53? anybody hear what he $ signed for and i respect he wouldn't take a pay cut he's worth a veteran contract. Good luck

He was evaluated last season. He was the run-stuffer was needed. Our opponents didn't have a 100 yard rusher when he played. He's a proven NFL player, and a very good one also. We don't have enough of those as it is. He was released so we could keep a player that's unproven and we never should have drafted to begin with.....that's why..

We are moving to a 3-4 defense and he didn't want to take a pay cut to stay on the team.
Also note that we had 2 guys with 100 yard rushes in the ATL game which he played and started in. He is a good player that will not work in our new system.
Good luck to him with the Saints.. except when we play them.

point well taken I wonder if the other Clancy made the decision or Whiz or Graves. I have to believe Clancy P. has influence on his d but maybe he don't. I don't think we can sign a better player at the same money but if not him who do we cut at NT? We are in a position where we must cut talent in many areas and FA rookies will have to be mega studs to see the practice squad, never been here before seen many Cards go to contenders as FA but few from cuts that start elsewhere Dg put a few out but they really didn't impact
never been here with the Cards before

That is blatently not true. Why do people keep repeating this nonsense?
Week 4 - Clancy 5 Tackles - M Vick 101 Rushing, J Norwood 106 Rushing (Just in case you haven't noticed that is two 100+ yard rushers in one game.)
Week 5 - Clancy 2 Tackles - L. Johnson 106 Rushing.
I was as sorry to see Clancy go as the next person, but people keep trotting out this stat, and it is just not correct. And look at the post above, Mel reads it and thinks it is correct.

Next person that says Clancy kept everyone under 100 needs to be slapped.
Stop making things up you homers.
