Question: Will you open training camp in July with the starting lineups you had to end off-season practices?

Answer: "Basically where they've been lining up is how we'll start camp."

Q: So if a guy wants to make a move up the depth chart, he needs to show something early in camp?

A: "Yeah. You guys know this. You guys have seen Troy Bienemann (tight end from Washington State). He's kind of a guy who has laid the groundwork to get that. So you get into camp, and he makes a couple of plays like he's made and he shows that he can block, then you're automatically going to want to move him up quickly."

Q: What's your philosophy in preseason games?

A: "When we go into preseason games, I'm more interested in playing base stuff so we can see how our guys match up one-on-one against the other team, against other players. So you can get a better evaluation. You always hear preseason whether your object is to try to win the game - or not win the game and play guys. We're going to work on things in training camp that we're not going to show in preseason games because we don't want teams to see them."

Q: So, you're not going to scheme preseason games just so guys can be successful?

A: "We're not going to scheme. We're just going to say, 'This is what we're going to run.' Sometimes it will match up and be OK, and sometimes it won't. I want to play well and look good, but it's always beneficial when you're going into that first game running things the other team hasn't prepared for."

Q: When the only negative of off-season workouts is that your seventh-round pick (tight end Ben Patrick) doesn't practice, things have been pretty successful?

A: "That's unfortunate, but hopefully he'll pick some things up mentally. (Steelers receiver) Santonio Holmes missed all the OTAs last year, and he had a decent rookie season, so you can do it. You just never know."

I figure we'll keep 3 TEs on the roster.. Pope, Patrick, Euhus and Bienemann seem to be in the running.

I agree about us keeping 3 TEs.

I'm thinking that Pope and Ben are safe, being draft picks and all that, not that they don't deserve to play. So it's between Euhus and Beinemann to battle it out.

Also, I do think it's Pope's last year to show everybody, and most importantly Whiz, that he can block, otherwise it could be bye-bye....

also remember we are down on fullbacks, and we intend to run more 2 TE sets. So don't be too surprised if we do end up keeping 4 TEs.

A lot of whether we keep 3 or 4 TEs will depend on how well all these undrafted FBs do in camp. With Femi gone, at least one of them will have a good chance to make the team. Tim Castille, Brandon Snow and Rashon Vercher--hope one of them can play well.

I'd rather see Vercher make it if we're gonna keep a guy to play behind Smith and Schable.
Vercher is the most versatile and a tough, angry, full steam ahead goaline runner. I've seen him run through USC's Oscar Lua (not easy) plus a few more condoms to get six for Fresno St. May be a good "insurance policy" option for Shipp.

Okay, I know this is coach speak, but it's still a bunch of balony. That said, now I'm going to set the whole board off by what I'm going to say next.

Is Whiz going to start Warner if he out performs Matt. I think we all know the answer to that. NO. But what makes anyone here think he's not? He complete 64% of his pass for 8.2 yds per pass. 2 of his 5 starts were for over 300 yds. His sub game in a half was more than 1/2 of a 300yd game. His qb rating was 89 would be another highest since Lomax. He played a lights out game against SD, where Fitz can't make a catch in the endzone he makes 9 out of 10 times, Edge can't get a 100 yds, and Shipp can't run the ball in from inside the 5 after being able to do that for the last 6 games. This is the guy you think Matt is better than right now! It's just not so, fumbles and all.

I WANT Matt to be good! I THINK he's going to be. But he is NOT the best qb on this team. He had 6 HORRIBLE games last year. He shouldn't have been in there. He should have been pulled for them and outside of some major overhaul there's nothing that says he's going to be any better. Eli STILL isn't as good as Warner was when he was in NY, and I doubt MATT will be any different in AZ. So Whiz is just playing lip service to the media and you. That's just the facts.

I think that the number of tight ends kept will be affected by the number of linebackers kept. There are good arguments for having one more than normal in each of these positions but I do not think that we have the space to run one extra in both.

if we are serious about this running thing then we have to go get Kevin Barry, provided he is completely recovered from his '06 injury.

Ahman Green called him the best blocking lineman he has ever played with.
