I'm writing a short NFC West preview for an internship and I was wondering if you guys could help me out. What was the team's most effective offensive play last year and what were the basic workings of it? Do Fitzgerald and Boldin have any favorite routes that they run? What are some of the unique ways that Edgerrin James is utilized? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fitz - Fly Route
Boldin - Slant/Post/Anything Over the Middle

Boldin will be used in the running game more often, as well as in the actual passing game. (Trick Plays)

Edge will be given more of the work load with Whisenhunt, but I still see him as more of a passing game runningback.

The Punt. Best chance that another pass was not intercepted or run fumbled, giving the visiting team great field position.

The Cards were dead last in 2007 in giving up field position.

I thought we did well when we would have Leinart play action and roll out (bootleg). He was effective at finding an open man with that play, if my memory serves me right.

Most effective play was
Get the ball into Matt's hands in the first quarter, and hurl it 50 yards to Fitz/Q/BJ and let them carry it in un-touched. :cardinals:

I think the official name for the play was the 'Rachel in Friends - go long play'.

Any play where Warner didn't fumble the snap

or

where the offfensive line gave the QB enough time

it's difficult to quantify last year's plays objectively, since situational game tactics are a huge part of the equation - running a play designed to get 5 yards may be smart or dumb depending on the situation.

That said, I believe the WR screen play was the most inefficient play in the book based on the situations it was used in; the shotgun formation was the most inefficient use of AZ's players because the line could not hold up long enough to give the QBs protection (which is why Warner was done so early in the year).

But your question was about the most efficient plays. If I had to state what play was most effective early on, it would probably be the formation where the Cards went 3-wide and either hit Boldin across the short middle or BJ on the short left. However, teams lined up to stop this by week 3 (SEA stopped it to a limited extent in week 2, but ATL killed all that drama) and the Cards had to adjust.

Ironically, the best play came in the KC game. Leinart audibled back to shotgun formation and the KC defense was caught totally off-guard, and a few seconds later Boldin had a 50-yard score. I don't have stats to back it up, but I have strong suspicion that teams had figured out our playcalling and Matt's audibles were most efficient because teams didn't see them coming.

Any play that didn't have involve JJ touching the ball would be considered a positive for me.

3/4 wide/singleback shotgun with a run/draw option for Edge.

This either put the ball in Edge's hand or let Leinart scan the field for blitzers and where Q and Fitz were. If he did not like any of those options, he could go to Edge on the option route with one linebacker on him. He can run in space very well.

Okay, I'm going to give this board something to howl about and surly put me on ignore, but it's would seem to be the obvious truth. It got 8.2 yds per play and was sucessful 64% of the time. That would be Kurt Warner passing the ball. :crybaby: :nelson: :iconrolf: :d'oh: :burgerking:
