View Full Version : Tailgating Tent/Canopy

I'm looking for advice on getting a tent/canopy for tailgating. Are anchors necessary for the poles since they'll be on the parking lot and not on grass? Is there any type of shade structure that attaches to the back of an SUV?

I've used bungees to tie it to the back of my truck. I've seen people use weights designed for the tents, but I don't know where you find those. Small sand bags would work too, I suppose...

We always have 2 large ice chests with us and use tie downs from them to the canopy. Works great.

yep, go the ice chest route. it kills two birds with one stone.

Get one that has a vent hole in the center of the tent. It works like a blow hole and it won't go Mary Poppins on you even with a pretty good wind. Cats and I just got one from Hutshop from the web. They also have some really neat accessories for holding your canopy down.

I have never tied down my tent and only once last year was there any problem. The Denver game it was windy and we had to put the ice chest on the legs of the tent. Of course who knows what the weather will be like, but I would not worry to much about this.

I have never used anchors during the season. It is rarely windy enough for tie downs, but using the jugs works like a charm.

I haven't needed to anchor it down yet since it doesn't get windy. I have sandbags but the cooler idea is good.

If you are going to get a canopy, may I recommend getting a :Cards logo: one. I have it from last year and it goes up very easily and has lots of ties to the frame, more than I've seen on a lot of others. It has been great.
