The Cards, the Squealers, and the Brokeback Cowboys have the best SS's in the league. You saw today who had a bigger impact on his team and on the game, and who was irrelevant.

Roy Williams is so overrated it almost isn't even funny anymore. The guy is not good at coverage and barely even tries to wrap up anymore. There was an especially pathetic tackle attempt that Williams had earlier this season where he just nudged the guy (a tight end, I think) and didn't even come close to knocking him down. Just a terrible play from an allegedly Pro Bowl-caliber NFL safety.

Considering Troy was out of the game the entire second half it is hard to tell. The same goes with Casey Hampton. When those two were in the game we did not score.

no doubt the 2 best SS in football were on the field today. I'm a homer so I have to side with A-dub, but Troy can sure influence a game. I hope he can whip the Seahogs for us next week.

ADUB, the beast of the league no doubt!! That idiot on NFL network needs to stop homering For Ed Reed just cause he feeds him donuts!!! ADUB>>>>>>>Reed

You'd mention the oft burned black version of Adam Archuleta but yet you don't mention the #20's in the league like Dawk or Reed.
it's also funny that you'd mention overrated Roy and not mention Sean Taylor...

Don't get mad cause Reed has earned DPOY and has returned more ints for TDs than Adub. It's not his fault that statistically Ed Reed deserves all the praise the national media gives him, and it's not Reed's fault that Adub hasn't returned a punt for a TD like Reed has.

Like I said, only player that plays similar to Adub is Ed Reed and I feel like he is on another level. He will get his recognition once we start turning this ship around.

I would say he's one of the best, yes.
I don't think you can really say anyone is "hands down" the best in the league though. I'm a huge A-Dub fan, and a total Cardinal homer, but you had to notice the momentum shift sunday when Troy Polamalu came out of the game.
A-Dub was definitely a hero when he saved our butts in the Red Zone, but to say he's hands down better then Polamalu is a bit out there. In the end, A-Dub is a Cardinal, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I wouldn't trade him for anyone. A-Dub is the man! :cardinals:

Dawk is just as good if not better than Reed and does what Reed is asked to do. The difference between the two merely lies in how each DC calls their plays.
Dawk has gotten praise and has been good for so long that I think people simply don't give him his props because his props are just automatic...

Like I said, ADUB has many stats to back anything he does up. I just don't like going to stats, because I know how he plays especially when you see him play in the games!!:football: :football: :football:

Same can be said of the other two, which is why I said it's not Reed's fault for national media respecting his playmaking ability so why is it that someone on NFLN has to be called a homer because they beleive a former DPOY and a S that has returned an int for 108 yards and a score is the best S in the league.
Alot of things about ADUB remind me of Leroy Butler, which obviously is a praise for those that know Butler, but for my money I'd rather have Dawk than any of the other safeties mentioned.

I'd say that the top four Safeties in the NFL are (in no order) Sean Taylor, Adrian Wilson, Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu. Dawkins is definitely up there, but in my opinion not as game changing at the four i just mentioned. Adrian is definitely my favorite for obvious reasons (being a Cardinal, if it wasnt that obvious) but I would take any of them anyday on my team. Truly special athletes. Never considered Roy Williams anything more than a hard hitter like Donovan Darius.
As always, just my two cents :Cards logo:

Anyone remember when A-Dub was a rook ? I knew from just a few plays how much that guy loved football and you could tell by the way he hit then, and now with a few more pounds of shear muscle he is still knockin em senseless.... I told my son "keep an eye on this guy, he's going to be special".
I've loved this guy since we picked him.
What a horrible team we had that year we drafted him though...lol.
Take a look at the roster

Wilson has 16 sacks to his 4 sacks... I just figured since he had over 3 times more sacks that it was a wash in both those categories... your point is ?
Seriously though, it's an important category no doubt Tiz but A-Dub is stronger in the lumber category, now if we were talkin FS or CB you may have a point but we're talkin about layin the lumber here.
Reed is solid make no bones about it... love the way he hits, his instincts, his reaction time and all... but you have to admit Tiz, some of those gimme int's are because of that defense as a whole (how many of those are a direct result of the pressure on the QB?), on the other hand A-Dub has done what he has done without such a supporting cast from day one in the league. That has to be considered don't you think?
Now that Wilson is being surrounded by more talent (especially the last 2 years Berry, Okeafor, Dansby, yada ya...not to mention the coaching we now have) then lets just see what pace he can get on, i'd venture to say he gains ground on Ed from here out in the int category.

i say wilson is the best and in a league of his own, i am very surprised no one mentioned bob sanders the eraser.also washingtons duo of sean taylor and laron landry sounds scary just thinking of it.
ed reed has the rest of the ravens defense to make him shine more, as past years would prove. wilson on the other hand didnt exactly have the pass rush help or corner coverage help as reed has had in the past, thus he had to do the rushing and covering him self.
no disrespect to reed , but imho adub defines SS:cardinals:

But at the same time Wilson has quadruple the sacks.
Reed is a great SS indeed, just depends on how you compare them. A case can be made for either one being the best.

Truely amazing what Wilson has done. I wonder if some have taken for granted what his production means to this team?
Again,

Why would you ask Reed to blitz a QB at the same frequency you ask Wilson. Yes Wilson has 4 times as many sacks, not 3 times, but that is not an important stat for a Safety. If the ravens front 7 is able to produce sacks with the regularity they have for the past decade why would they need to blitz Reed frequently. In this regards Wilson is like Leroy Butler he can get the sacks which is great but Reed is getting the ball back for his offense.
Reed is a great SS indeed, just depends on how you compare them. A case can be made for either one being the best.
And that is the point people say case closed as if Wilson is easily better. The reality is that you can make a case for both as well as a few others...

He's played both free and strong. They made him permanent free last year with Dawan playing great at Strong. It's the same with Dawkings being listed as a Free safety this year. He's still played alot of his career at the SS position.

4 x the sacks not important for a SS ? Come on Tiz now you try and justify the lack of sacks on behalf of Reed saying he didn't need that output thanks to the front seven of the Ravens... thanks for proving my point that it is an important category.
How many of those sacks were a direct result of 3rd and long situations for our opponents or resulting in 4th downs ? Those are stats that don't show up but still equally as important if it results in the opponent having to kick the ball away. Just as good as in int in those situations don't ya think ? Who cares how you get the ball back as long as you get it out of the enemies hands.
4 x the sacks not important for a SS ?
Again read the whole post Bert. Why would Reed need to rush the passer with the same frequency as Wilson. I'd rather have 14 more ints with more Ints ret'd for Tds than the 12 more sacks. The INTs give your offense a shorter field to work with more often than not. A sack still leaves the opponent with the ball.
You can act like i'm trying to be a homer all you want but I've already mention that I'd take Dawk over Reed to begin with and that has alot to do with Dawk being a natural leader even amongst a defense/team that has multiple leaders.

Thats a good argument no doubt, all of the players mentioned are solid probowl talent for sure.
Im still sold on Wilsons numbers, combined with his ability to lay down the lumber better than anyone else mentioned. They all hit good but Wilson is the best in my book. Call me a homer if you want, but the guy just doesn't get the respect that he deserves. By the way how bout that hit on Heap a couple of weeks ago Tiz ? Possible game over (tell me hits alone don't change the outcome like int's do) situation if the Zebras call it correctly.
