View Full Version : This "I'm Offended" Crap Is Getting Old-Read On

It seems as though the Philadelphia Phillies new AAA affiliate the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs' mascot nicknamed Pork Chop by fan vote will be changed to Ferrous because, apparently, the word pork chop is offensive to Latino's, namely Puerto Ricans. Now this PC crap is going a bit to far. If there are Puerto Ricans on these message boards please enlighten the rest of us as to why this term is offensive. According to one person, the term was a racist term for Puerto Ricans. Now, I've lived in Cumberland Co. NJ and was born and raised in Vineland, NJ for most of my life which means I lived around Puerto Ricans most of my life and never once have I ever heard someone use pork chop at them let alone as a racist term. Of course the team couldn't apologize enough but where does it end? Are Jews now free to say they're offended because a team in their area is named after a pig? This is really getting out of hand. Also, this Guillermo Lopez and his Latino Leadership Alliance, do they get offended while grocery shopping and see packaged and packages of pork chops on the shelf? Do they not eat pork chops because they offend them? Am I out of line here? Am I being insensitive? Oh, here's a link to the story: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Aihl5cAN3RI3T8INWEe1O1Yk0bYF?slug=ap-mascotnamechange&prov=ap&type=lgns

You insensitive?
I agree with your responce to this. It is over-reaching by that organization. Maybe they feel left out of the spot light, and just want something to complain about.
It could be based on an urban myth. I have heard that long ago, The Brady's were to have a Puerto Rican, as a gardener in one episode. Well as it went they couldn't couldn't find a replacement when he got sick. You see he was to say that famous line that one of the kids ended up having to say. You guessed it; "Pork chops and apple sause.".
I thought you might want to see this guys on-line resume. http://www.enter.net/~casa143/resume.htm

My only difference in my attitude towards the subject as originally posted is that I'm not looking for enlightenment and I couldn't care less why anybody thinks the term Pork Chop is offensive.

I talked to several Puerto Rican co-workers yesterday and not one of them ever heard of pork chop as an offensive term. This whole thing is just strange.

NJ...I am from Reading, PA; which is about 65-70% Puerto Rican. In my 20+ years living there, never heard anything of the sort? Weird!!
The slur "Pork Chop" I believe is a racist term for the Portugese (sp?)? Does anyone know?

I figured it out, it offensive to their own recipie:
PUERTO RICAN PORK CHOPS
6 pork chops
2 chopped onions
1 c. chopped tomatoes
1 c. water
4 tbsp. butter
2 chopped green peppers
1/2 c. uncooked rice
Salt to taste
Fry pork chops that have been rolled in flour, in butter. Add chopped onions and brown. Add other ingredients. Cover and cook for 60-70 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

"Guillermo Lopez, vice president of the Latino Leadership Alliance, said he was called “pork chop” when he worked at Bethlehem Steel decades ago."
So because the VP of the LLA called a "Pork Chop" decades ago...it is now deemed offensive.

I got it...
Minority leaders are a bunch of snake-oil salesman, I was going to say a bunch of weak *******, but you know...
Let's replace them with people... let's just say, with an advanced frame of mind... For example. I Ty Paige.. will replace all black/colored/negro/african-american leaders.
I'll sit in my office, collecting dues.. or funds.. or whatever. I'll get a phone call from some group saying that their teacher named their class teddy bear "Tom" and I need to fly over there and lead a protest rally to get the teacher fired...
I'll reply by saying, "stop being a *****", and I'll call it a day.
and then my hot puerto rican assistant will bring me my pork chops.. or chicken.. or whatever

Haha, that was too funny.
If some uptight people could take themselves a little less seriously, maybe this would be a better world. Unfortunately, sometimes you need to stare your own mortality in the face for you to realize what a ridiculous fool you have been.
I don't let anyone change the name on me because someone doesnt like it. It's still Squaw Peak to me and that's what i call it. Go Pork Chop!

this week at the Palm Valley golf course in Goodyear they are having the annual Shanty Irish and great American Golf tournament. Apparently what was considered a racial slur when I was growing up in the Irish part of West Philly is now ok. I am so offended I think I will go over and have a beer.

This same topic came up at my work, and we have a couple hispanics there that were asked about this, and they looked at us like we were crazy. We asked them if "Pork Chop" was a racial slur and they just laughed. Seems this stupid ******* that runs this group is the only person that's ever taken offense at this term. But because our nation is so pathetically over sensitive on EVERYTHING, we have to change anything with even a slight chance to offend anyone.
Absolutely ridiculous, this world is going completely mad.

With so many different nationalities in this country, it gives us a mass collection of dumb.
Just have to add a new chapter in the book USA For Dummies

Well, after talking with the puerto rican princess, she had no clue what I was talking about.. and laughed at me... her quote.. "What the hell do pork chops have to do with me?"
After that, we quickly got into a serious debate over sideburns.
She really doesn't know anything about porkchops other than they come from pigs.
oh crap.. almost forgot..
I got regular lovin'... but no axl rose ... so she got none from me neither!
But since sideburns were added to the experiment of the subject of pork chops, the results are inconclusive.

I got the same feeling when I read the article. Because one ******* was offended and happened to be the head of a political organization the team was forced to change the mascots name. Stupid.
