Fans of the Arizona Cardinals prepping for football and tailgating should consider their options for Thursday's preseason home opener, as University of Phoenix Stadium's 8-acre tribute to brats and wienies is temporarily out of bounds.

Grass on the Great Lawn was removed recently, and the soil remixed and regraded with new turf rolled in this week. It will take several weeks for the sod to take root.

During preseason games Thursday against the New Orleans Saints and Aug. 29 against the Denver Broncos, no tailgating will be allowed on the Great Lawn, although fans still can grill on its perimeter, on the patch of lawn south of Gate 1 or in parking lots.

Nothing like waiting until the last minute to fix the great lawn. Well, I guess it's only PRESEASON. Hmmm......maybe we should all pay half price for preseason games.

Even if I didn't have to work until 4 on Thursday, there's zero chance I would tailgate when it's 110 degrees.

This is sloppy business by the University of Phoenix stadium people. Cards should have had someone on this awhile back. The lawn has been torn up for months...they should and could have had this done...it's piss poor management.

...nothing short of sloppy.

they had all offseason to work on it...maybe after they ripped out the tree's...those fools drive to work every day and see the problem...when did their head turn on and say...'o maybe we should fix this.'

bunch of idiots!!@!!!!

Our group tailgates every game 200 degrees or -100 degree's we're tailgating. We built a mister system for our ez up.

Dude...chill out....obviously you've never done anything related to commercial construction....permitting, inspections....all that has to take place. This isn't a DIY project you're doing in your backyard. Not to mention the months of negotiations between the builder and Cardz management about who would pay for fixing it. In one corner, the Cardinals wanted Hunt construction to pay for it since it wasn't done right the first time. Hunt wanted the Cardinals to pay for it since they had washed their hands of the project. Until that all settled out, nothing could happen.

Tailgating is serious business, but it doesn't detract from the game if I can't go on the great lawn yet.

I can see how others would be upset about it.

the shoulda used a three-step system... i have no idea what that is but when a landscaper came to make my grass grow better again, that's what he recommended. so that is the term i drop to anyone talking about lawns or grass.

:Cards logo: Sure they should have done it in the spring but once you miss that window it is better to wait till you can count on some cooler weather. I put sod down when it was 114 and it was murder keeping it alive through the rest of summer. Go to Home Depot and buy a turf mat, set up some shade have a beer and relax... It's football season again.:redtowel:

U have the right at-tude but it sounds as if action was taken recently during our summer anyway? U of P or the Cards should have planned this a month earlier. Money, quarrel or slow feet have eliminated the tailgate experience during the pre-season for many fans that paid top dollar for increased ticket prices.

Bad start for sure? Where will complaining get you though?????????????????????

Well like Kid Stallyn mentioned, the delay was due to the cardinals legal battle with hunt construction. Once the project was complete, the cardinals were to take over the maintenance of the landscaping, but the cards felt the project was not done properly, thus the months of arbitration on the issue. Now that the honus was put on Hunt, well not much time before the season starts to get it corrected.

They have completed the re-sodding and no need to make any attempt to get on the lawn as it is completed gated off.

It shouldn't be too huge of a factor as it is too hot to tailgate, plus myself personally, I won't have the time to do a full tailgate on thursday due to work and the 5 o-clock start time.

We made a system out of a bug sprayer tank and a 8 nozzle portable kit that Home Depot sells. Just put water in the tank and pump it up to pressurize the system. It works pretty good but it would be interesting to hear of other methods.

They actually had disagreements with the construction company that build the stadium, most of those issues had to do with the landscaping. They recently got those issues resolved and actually started working on the lanscaping right afterwards so they actual did move on it pretty quickly. Also, I would rather they do it now while it is too hot to even tailgate, it will be ready for the season opener.

That is great. I am going to see if I can get one built by the end of the season. The only problem I can see is that we use 5 of the 10x10 ez ups so I don't know if a tank is going to last for the ammount of tubing I will need.

Home depot sells a portable misting kit that has a hose connector on it. I'm actually contemplating that one, and just filling a 5 gallon bucket with water and using an old water bed pump to create the pressure.
