New England may not have been penalized in last week's 23-16 victory over the Rams. But one of their players was fined for a late hit in the game at Gillette Stadium.
Running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis was fined $5,000 for unecessary roughness, according to the NFL. Although there was no penalty called on the play, during its normal review of game tape the league determined that Green-Ellis did in fact strike Rams cornerback Fakhir Brown late and out of bounds at the end of Brown's interception return in the the third quarter.
There were no fines, however, for what appeared to be a late hit by New England defensive tackle Richard Seymour on Rams quarterback Marc Bulger. Or for an apparent facemask grab by New England linebacker Adalius Thomas on Bulger.
Rams coach Jim Haslett sent several plays in for review by the league's officiating department after a game in which the Rams were penalized nine times for 63 yards, but the Patriots were not penalized once _ the first time that has happened in Patriots franchise history.
