View Full Version : Tim Brown on the Game

This is what Tim Brown said as reported by Haller Az Central. Some of you may have seen it.
"The Steelers don't have enough offense," Brown said. "I think the Cardinals' defense is good enough to stop them. And I know the Steelers have the best defense in the league, but with Boldin getting healthier now, I just think those two guys are going to be pretty tough to stop. If Pittsburgh turns the ball over, it won't even be close."
I couldn't agree more.

This is obviously an oversimplified layman's view of the game, but I think that the more intricate evidence backs it up, and it pretty much summarizes my feelings on the game. Our O vs their D = Strength vs. Strength + healthy Boldin creating even more matchup problems than before. I see us with a decent-sized advantage in the ARI D vs. PIT O scenario.

The Steelers D is based on giving up short yards and then tightening up around the red zone and limiting the O to field goals. It gives our O the chance to win the game and we have done that this year on a constant basis. Brown played for the Raiders "enough said there"

We have one of the best red zone offenses. They may need to rethink their strategy.
Ehh I don't care what anyone says at this point. They could all be right, they could all be wrong. Truth is they all are guessing.

True DMack as all analysis of any game is guessing, but you are responding so that tells me you care to some point? Your O may have a great red zone percentage, but we only gave up an average of 14 points a game against some really good O's. The point is even if you score 21 you have to stop us from getting 22 and i don't see that happening...

glad another former player is picking the cards. seems they are better at it than the "experts" that have never played a down in the NFL.

Brown is the 5th all-time leader in receptions.
I have been saying all week that I just don't see how the Steelers are going to score enough points. The Steeler offense is simply not that good.
I also watched the Super Bowl from two years ago. If this defense is anything like that one, they are not stopping us. Seattle went up and down the field on them and between Jeremy Stephens dropping 10 passes and the refs, that game should not have been close.
I REALLY like our chances in this game.

Riiight. Brown was only one of the best WR to play the game.

Agreed.
At least Brown's point is valid based on how he sees the team matching up.
Terrell Davis thinks the Steelers will win "because they have a history".
Even if TD is proved right, and Brown wrong. I'd rather talk football with someone who thinks about the game, than someone who doesnt.

The Titans and Chargers put up 31 and 24 points on you. Not saying that means your defense is a sham, just that a good gameplan executed by a halfway respectable offensive team can allow a fair number of points to be scored on you. Even the Colts managed to put up 20 against you on at Heinz Field in crappy conditions, but then again, they don't have a defense. You did hold the Pats to 10 points though and deserve credit for that.
Our offense is effective in more than just the redzone, believe, me. What I think the Steelers need to be worried about is the PIT O vs. ARI D matchup. Our O vs. your D is strength vs. strength, but the other matchup has the potential for a Cardinals domination. Our defense is more than capable of stopping an offense like yours; they've already shut down three teams in the playoffs who arguably already had better offenses than you. We can stop the run, create turnovers and pressure the QB enough for us to win. If we play D our way and execute our gameplan soundly, I don't see the Steelers O scoring more than 20 points. We can overcome that. I still can't believe people don't give our defense credit....
And as far as the Tim Brown comment, that's just funny.....It's tantamount to saying that even if someone played for the Steelers in the '60's, they played on a great team because of the franchise's current reputation. Those Raider teams were great. Nothing they did has anything to do with JaMarcus Russell or Lane Kiffin.

I know, guessing is all part of the fun. But with two weeks to guess, some people come up with some crazy stuff. Truth is the Cards could score 40 on the Steelers and win by a landslide or the other way around. I doubt either will happen but it could. Some teams match up better with other teams then others. But that's why they play the game. :blahblah: :ha:

See below......
We shut the Chargers down after the first drive. Rivers got 300 playing catch-up after the game was already in hand. 62 went to Sproles with under 2:00 minutes left with the score 35-17. The Chargers had 15 yards rushing and had to pass. The game wasn't even close.
The Colts were benefited by 83 yards in tipped passes, one for a TD. It was one of those fluky games were everything went the Colts way.
The Titans played their SB against us and put it to us. They were the ONLY team to put 30+ on us. Any loss we had this year was not a direct result of the defense, it was the result of turnovers by the offense which is why the Cards have a decent shot at winning. As many have stated they are patient and wait for mistakes. Ben will have a game or two where he will get sloppy with the ball. Unfortunitly for Card fans he hasn't been doing that recently. Don't count on Ben giving the Cards a short field in this game. The Cards will have to earn every yard they get.

Since you like to talk in the now. The Chargers had the next "Gayle Sayers" in Darren Sproles coming into that game. They also had a QB in Rivers that threw for more TD's than Warner and company. You do watch football don't you or just the Cards? One other thing, bad weather is an excuse teams like the Cards use when they lose.

1.) Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing. You used media hype of Sproles as a relevant argument as to why the Steelers' D is good. I'm "with you" on this in the sense that Sproles is really a nobody. Meaning that what you did to the Chargers is not as impressive as you try to make it sound. Once again, you engage in the same fallacious logic by saying that you beat the "hottest team in the AFC". You just said that you were poking fun at the Media's hype of Sproles, and then you turn around and use media hype of the Chargers ("hottest team in the AFC) to bolster your argument that the Steelers' win against the Chargers was more impressive. You can't have it both ways, bud.
2.) How would I describe multiple deflected passes bouncing in the hands of receivers? As an educated football fan, I'd say that when good WR's playing for a good offense, as you have in IND, they don't give up routes before the whistle is blown, and can concentrate on catching the ball when it does bounce in their hands (Take notes, Limas Sweed.) You can't blame a WR for making a play when the ball (literally) bounces his way. That part of the equation is skill in concentration. Hence, if Limas Sweed had any, he would have caught that beautiful, perfect TD pass Ben threw him a few weeks ago. Here's a great article on what I'm talking about: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123207803343289089.html
3.) I said "handled your defense" not "handed" it to anyone. And yes, that's my point, a no-name WR who sucks and whose name I can't even remember was effective against your D. Justin Gage, Bobby Wade, Dennis Northcutt? Who knows, who cares? That's my point, he was a no-namer.
4.) "Someone as smart as me should that last year means nothing?" The most laughable thing you've typed in this thread. That was my point; you were bringing up old SB wins, so quid pro quo, I said, If you can bring up old SB wins as a legitimate argument, I can bring up the game that you lost to us last year. So, as I was demonstrating to you, YOUR OLD SUPERBOWL WINS MEAN NOTHING IN THIS GAME JUST LIKE US BEATING YOU LAST YEAR DOESN'T.

You were using the Chargers 300 yard passing game as proof the Steelers pass defense is over rated. I think I proved you why it was wrong.
Come on man, are you kidding me? You didn't watch the game. You got me on Sweed, but give the rook a break.
Nice recovery and that was not your point. Who are you trying to kid? The Titans defense handed it to us.
Oh please, you were not. You were dipping in the botttom of the bag to try an win a debate.
5.)
6.)The Steelers are the better team? Then why do the play the game? Were the Steelers the better team when you lost to the Eagles? Were the Eagles the better team when we beat them? Were the Pats the better team when they lost to the Giants last year in the SB?
This was in response to your statement that Steeler fans should be the ones that are scared. Think the Pats were scared of the Giants? Context my man...context.
