I'm sure there a lot of answers to this question, but why does our front office get flamed so badly for the off season following the 1998 season? I keep hearing how letting Brown, Centers, and Miller go killed the franchise. But is that really true? Centers best years were behind him, Miller never really did anything in Cleveland, and I don't know about Brown.

Centers caught 230 passes in the three years after his departure. That's still very productive for a fullback. Plus, he was a huge part of the locker room. It was like letting AW go after this season. I don't think any fan or player was behind getting rid of Centers.

Miller was extremely productive in Cleveland, but he messed up his knee in the preseason of 2002 and never recovered. He had 13 sacks and was an All Pro the year before it happened. He was also only 26 when he left.

Lomas Brown started for the Giants in the Super Bowl and was the leader of the line. The Cardinals haven't had many Pro Bowl offensive linemen, but Lomas was one of them. The line suffered noticeably after he left.

After all the losing, this was the worst message possible to send out after winning a playoff game. The Cardinals had a terrible reputation for letting players go, and these moves reinforced that theory. They also didn't have anyone to take their places, which led to the steady but average Rob Fredrickson and the Joel Makovicka experiment. Overall, management blew it that offseason.

OK thanks it was an honest queston. I was pretty young so I didn't remember exactly what happened. Thanks for the reminder

I think I also read something not too long ago over this. It had part to do with the fact that we didn't have a stadium that creates the money that allows you to keep your top players longer. To be honest I think I read this in the article from the main site about what we have done since then and it started with hiring Graves and Bill started to hand things over to Micheal. and if I'm correct, once the stadium deal was passed, Micheal and Rod have had control of football operations of the team. Yes Bill has left the building, well he still has parts to do with like the firing of Green and hiring of Whis.

Sorry if my tone was a bit angry. As you can tell, I'm still not happy with that off season. Nothing against you or your question.

Talk about bringing up old anger....:ha:

I still despise the Vikings for that hammering we took up there in the second round.

The shame of it is that we didn't have that bad a season in '99. We lost a couple of close games and we had 6 games where we scored 10 points or less with 4 games of 7 points or less. Then Jake got hurt and we were stuck with Dave Brown. We didn't recover until last season.
