I know this type of analysis is not for everyone but it helps me understand the schemes and roles of the different players and positions. This was the last we saw of the Steelers starting offense and our starting defense. The personnel used were identical to those in my earlier post for each defensive package.

1st-10
Base 3-4 Defense
The Steelers started at their own 8 and Roethlisberger took a deep drop. Haggans came from the outside and Robinson had good push up the middle. Dockett was double teamed. Campbell beat his man easily and nearly had a sack in the end zone forcing the QB to scramble. Haggans missed a tackle at the one and Roethlisberger was able to make a gain of 3. Coverage downfield must have been good, I know Okeafor had his man blanketed.

2nd-7
Base 3-4
Dansby blitzed and was breaking free. In my opinion he was held but that penalty would only be called half the time. (I’m not whining about the zebras, it goes both ways) The pass was completed for a gain of 13 between Wilson, Hayes and Okeafor.

1st-10
Base 3-4
A run to the right. Campbell made backside pursuit again, very impressive quickness. The left side of the line held the point and Hayes made the tackle for a gain of two. This was a good defensive play.

2nd-8
Nickel D
Another run to the right. The entire line held their ground and Dansby made the tackle for a loss of 2. Francisco was in position to make the play at the line, but Dansby was sick at fighting through.

3rd-10
Nickel D
4 man rush created no pressure. Pass complete in traffic for a gain of 11.

1st-10
Cards get caught in wrong defense again (too many men on field) and call timeout. This is the second wasted time out on defense.
Base 3-4
Another run to the right. The O-line has good surge and pushes our line back. Okeafor and Wilson make the stop after a gain of 5.

2nd-5
Base 3-4
A run up the middle. Campbell made the hit behind the line but missed the tackle. Rolle and Dansby cleaned up after a gain of 1.
3rd-4
Nickel D. Steelers seemed confused by the look and are charged with delay of game

3rd-9
Nickel D.
Wilson Blitzes free from the outside. The bad pass was caused by AW’s bad intent. The receiver was open in front of DRC but the pass was rushed. DRC may have been able to make the tackle in front of the first down marker if necessary.

Punt to Rolle, runs two yards and fumbles, recovered by Ware. Rookies Brown and Davis were in on the return team. Now have we seen enough of the Rolle Return experiment?

I agree on the second play Dan, the lineman was holding and you could see him lifting his arms up and it was obvious to me.

I came in a couple minutes in but I seen Pittsburg first team with obvious holding isolated on the right side ref Ref had to be paid or dead to miss it.

Ya dude, the refs were "paid" in this preseason matchup...

They missed it or figured; 'meh it's preseason, oh well'. Either way who cares? I saw the play it was holding, no debate. The refs clearly just missed it or they didn't want to make a PS game any more boring than it had to be.

PAID? SERIOIUSLY? Does Vegas even allow betting on preseason games?

yes didn't hear the guy fuming about the safety at the end of the Hall of fame game. beat the spread!

but no that came off wrong I just meant the Ref missed a wrap around obvious holding right in front of him,

I should have said Spayed or dead to stop the drama!
