View Full Version : Carpooling and Tailgating from East Valley

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone out there in the East Valley would be interested in Carpooling and/or Tailgating to games. I'm a first year STH but a very big sports nut. I am hoping to find someone with a van or something so maybe 6 or 7 of us could get together and pitch in for gas and rotate driving so that the rest of us could get wasted and NO DUI's to worry about. I'm located at Alma School and Baseline in Mesa.
If interested, email me at don.shrock@asu.edu.
ya'll some whiney *** lil girls.. where were you trying to get us westsiders car pools when we had to make the trek out to your crappy city in tempe? waaaaaaaaa... cry me a river dude..

The idea of carpooling is people from the same geographical area, needing to drive in the same direction or destination ride together.
And (sundevil don quote) "I'm a first year STH but a very big sports nut." Maybe he wasn't interested last year.
You are too eager to put people down!

He is not asking the westsiders to get him a carpool, "I was wondering if anyone out there in the East Valley would be interested in Carpooling and/or Tailgating to games".I dont know why you want to turn this into a eastside-westside thing. I think maybe you have a complex about living on the weakside. I would venture a guess that far more "eastsiders" will make the drive and the season ticket base will continue to be dominated by the "eastside".The bottom line is I give great props to the city of Glendale for stepping up and snagging the stadium. As far as Tempe, it rocks, and every weekend there is something happening at the lake or one of the downtown clubs, not to mention all the hot girls that attend A.S.U. Our season ticket base and the number of people who want to back the Cards is growing for the first time. We dont need to divide the fans between the "eastside" and the "westside". The man wasnt crying as you called him out for, you need to calm down enjoy the stadium being close, and us "eastsiders" will make the drive, yell for our Cards as always, and tip some beers with you as we give any opposing fans a hard time.:chillpill:

You know what would be great? An inner-city rivalry like New York (Jersey). Or in baseball, Chicago, LA, and New York.
In 10 years, the valley here is expected to be #2 on the biggest cities list. We are expected to be #2 behind only NYC. We are expected to pass Chicago and LA with all our growth, and their declining population (or stagnant growth).
If this city can become NFL nuts with some Super Bowl wins, and a decade of sell-outs, and waiting lists....then I would love to see a 2nd team in the valley. On the East Side of course. Then all you on the east side won't have to complain about gas no more. Of course the Cards will always be the west side team, you all can have the Vikings if ya want. And take WildCards with ya. :peace:

Southern Cal don't even want to lay claim on the Chargers. With our 1st 2 draft picks this year, the Cards just became Southern Cal's team also.

That made absolutly no sense at all..
How can the chargers be closer when I live 10 minutes from the new stadium?

First of all it was a joke ;joker: , second the only whining so far has been from you about whining. I think its great that you're now ten minutes away from the new stadium. That means in the past if the freeway was closed it took you four and a half hours to get to SDS. Thats half and hour closer to get to San Diego . Its only ten times a year(hopefully twelve) and I would drive to Tucson to see my Cards with no complaints. Since you are so close, your house should be great a place for victory parties after the games  .

Any chance the light rail will go out there some day? I wouldn't mind taking a train from Tucson to Phoenix and ride the light rail out to the stadium. I know that's a long ways off, just getting a train between the two places would be nice.

Tempe is NOT on the east side. Mesa, Gilbert, Queen Creek, and Chandler are on the "east side". Tempe is more like the border between Phoenix and the east side.

I ain't been here but 2 years now. But I think I got it figured out. Central Avenue is the reference point. Everything east of Central is the east side. Everything west of Central is the west side. Last time I went to Sun Devil, I think I had to cross on over Central to hit the 202 over on the east side....

By that logic someone going from 1st street to 1st avenue is making a "trip" from the east side to the west side. Better pack a lunch

Yes central divides the east side and west side of downtown Phoenix. But this area is known as central phoenix, or downtown. Sky harbor/ Tempe area is known as the east valley corridor and mesa, gilbert, etc as the east valley. Genearally speaking albeit not definitive, if it is west of central phoenix, about 35 ave., it is the west side. IMO

Yes, i agree, and anything east of about 32nd st is the east side. Central Phx goes noth to about Northern ave and south to Buckeye Rd. This is the way it is and always has been. Alot of people who live in Mesa think it is the center of the universe, but they are sadly mistaken.

I agree with ya. I probably used bad logic.
So how's this? Anything with a 480 area code is the east valley. The main campus phone number to ASU is (480)965-9011. So that definitely makes Tempe east valley.
And those last 2 posters were correct. 32nd St and 35th ave seem like a good distinction from east and west, with the middle of those being downtown or central. Or you could also say that the 17 and the 51 are the borders, with everything west of the 17 being the west valley, and everything east of the 51 is the east valley, and everything in between is central.
Either way you wanna look at it, Tempe is definitely east valley.

For me everythign west of sky harbor is the west side, but that is how I look at it. If you had to make distinctions, the 51 is a bit too far west, but I could live with that, no big deal. I guess times are changing with all the growth on the west side, it seems to push Tempe further east. Only thing with the area code is there are parts of Phoenix with 602 east and south east of the 51. What is Scottsdale's area code? 602?

Ok, your logic is causing me to rethink things. And since my (loving?) wife just laughed at me for making this point I guess I have to conceid the point. But at least give me that it is so far on the west side of the east side that it may be on the border.

the only people who ever bring up the whole westside vs. eastside thing are people who live on the westside. A guy inquires about carpooling and gets ripped and accused of whining. It wasn't whining, he just wants to knock back a few at a game this year. BFD. Gee, I know that you think that the west valley and east valley are like Israel and Palestine, but come on. As someone that lives in the east and works in the west, both areas have ton of dirt, a lot of construction, and are hot. Go check out Surprise. Looks a lot like Gilbert. This is the Phoenix metro area, overall a great place to live. The whole east vs. West thing is pointless.

I agree. Other than there not being any nightlife or culture west of I-17, and Westsiders missing half their teeth and saying funny things like, "We was going to school," there really isn't much of a difference between the eastside and the westside.

What do you mean there is not nitelife out here on the east side. Just last week me and my wife stayed up till 7:30. We were going to stay up later but the neighbors said they were going to call the cops if we didn't turn off our lights. :iconrolf:

OK,
I posted a while ago on this and don't understand what the hell is up with some people. WEST SIDE....EAST SIDE.....Who cares? Why do you get so defensive and accuse me of whining? If I was going to whine it would be about driving from Mesa to ASU West (Thunderbird & 47th Ave) two to three days a week for the past two years. The only difference is....I don't get wasted while I'm at school.
I was just looking for a group of guys that want to save some trouble and have a good time.
P.S. I'm a first year season ticket holder because I had been working EVERY SUNDAY for the past several years, so it wouldn't make much sense to be a season ticket holder before.
Peace,

You'll notice the guy who criticized your post was banned.
Good luck getting your carpool together.
You might have more success posting on some of the ASU boards, or even the old-fashioned thumb-tack boards on campus. I'm sure there are several students with tickets you could team up with.

How is it whining, if he's asking to carpool with others, rotate driving and have a designated driver for each of the games?
Nowhere do I see anything about "OOooh... the west side is so far and i don't want to drive" statements. Looks and reads to me like someone looking to enjoy the season.
