Odell Thurman and Ahmad Brooks are going to be two of the most solid LB's in the game in a couple of years. They should feed off of eachother well.

Didn't they have enough "character-issue" players already?

Never enough for Cincy. They have to keep up with their "one arrest a week" quota. Marvin Lewis must be trippin. :garfield:

Brooks getting into legal problems would just top off things.........Chris Henry, what a character.

Perhaps this may have influenced the Bengals decision in selecting Brooks.

They'll soon be running out of LB's if they're not careful.

Mark Curnutte (http://www.kffl.com/link/162), of the Cincinnati Enquirer (http://www.kffl.com/link/163), reports Cincinnati Bengals (http://www.kffl.com/team/12/nfl) LB Odell Thurman (http://www.kffl.com/player/11356/nfl) has been suspended for four games of the NFL (http://www.kffl.com/team/77/nfl) season for violating the league's substance abuse policy, according to a source close to the situation. The source said it was not necessarily a positive drug test that led to the suspension, as a missed test counts the same as a positive test.

Thurman to be suspended
BY MARK CURNUTTE | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER
Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman will be suspended for the first four games of the NFL season for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy, a source close to the situation told the Enquirer this afternoon.

The source said it was not necessarily a positive drug test that led to Thurman’s suspension. A missed test also counts the same as a positive test.

Thurman, who turned 23 on July 9, was one of the NFL’s top defensive rookies in 2005. He had a team-high 148 tackles and tied for the team lead with four forced fumbles. He returned one of his five interceptions for a touchdown. He started 15 games at middle linebacker and did not start the 16th for violation of a team rule.

Questions about Thurman’s health or status for the upcoming season surfaced during the mandatory June mini-camp. He was excused for personal reasons, coach Marvin Lewis said at the time.

Questions about Thurman’s situation again surfaced today when the Bengals selected former University of Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the NFL’s Supplemental Draft.

The Bengals also used their fifth-round pick in the April 29-30 draft on former Florida State linebacker A.J. Nicholson.

Depth is no problem at linebacker for the Bengals. They also have returning second-year pro David Pollack, their first-round pick in 2005. They also drafted a pair of linebackers in the third round in 2004, Caleb Miller and Landon Johnson.

Johnson started 11 games at middle linebacker as a rookie in place of injured starter Nate Webster. Johnson led the Bengals with 133 tackles as a rookie and appears to be the likely candidate to start in place of Thurman during the first month.

Pollack figures to be the starter at strong-side linebacker, and veteran Brian Simmons is likely to again start at weak-side linebacker.

You have got to be kidding me! This is getting absurd. At this rate the Bengals will become the new Faders before the season even begins. Geesh... :computer:

didnt bengals learn that players like that dont change, they have guys like chris henry who's been arrested like 7 times in 2 years, aj nicholson, who was charged with theft like a week after he was drafted, odell thurman who was just suspended for 4 weeks, and i think frostee rucker has had some off-field problems to. now they have brooks?

My dislike for Cincinatti is growing.

Why would you hate on the Bangles? They are a reflection of your own tragic tormented souls. I have a friend who is a die hard Bangles fan his entire life and we share a very unique common bond. It is a very sick bond that only true mascohists could ever understand. The Bangles are as close to brothers as any we could ever have. They are finally doing exactly what we have always wanted to do and we are on our way as well. So don't hate the Bangles. There are much more repulsive squads out there for us to hate, ones that have been the apple of evey eye for oh so long as we have have been dwelling in our dark cellar. But now we are crawling out from our dark cellar, coming to rip them limb from limb. They will now learn to fear the once lowly cellar dwellers! :scared:

My dislike for Cincinatti is growing.

Why, because they are taking a chance on a players that have character issues?

It's a technique.... Don't know how succesful it will be but it's a technique. I think you can take a chance on a few players occassionally but the Bengals are taking it to the extreme.

Nobody is even mentioning that Draft pick Frostee Rucker is in court as well.

Odell Thurman and Ahmad Brooks are going to be two of the most solid LB's in the game in a couple of years. They should feed off of eachother well. Thanks for the props, but I think Odell might be finished, due to his legal problems. In college, he was concidered the best inside linebacker in the draft, that slipped from a possible over-all pick very early in the first round-(like top 4 or 5) all the way to a middle 2nd rounder, because of trouble at Georgia. Cincy, being so terrible when Marvin took over, decided to take David Pollock with the first pick, thinking he would be there at #2. The Cincy papers were all busting about the great steal they got in him, if he keeps his nose clean!---Not!---Ahmad Brooks hits like a frieght train! We saw him in camp knocking blocking dummies 15 yards! Unreal!---& then, with E.J. Henderson at #3 ILB had to be released, to make room for Odell--suspended---& Brooks--injured---Now, he's playing MLB for the Vikings, & getting Pro-Bowl recognition. I look at my crippled Bengals Defense & it just makes me sick! Pollock may never come back. Odell, may never be allowed back, plus major injuries to every Bengals LB, except Landon Johnson, & he's playing hurt! They are just now getting some guys back, but I think it's too late for this year. The woes are not only on Defense, the Offense can't get a tailback! 5 years ago, when Coach Lewis first arrived, he lost his only 2 Pro-Bowlers in Corey Dillon & Takeo Spikes, & he's been plugging holes ever since! At tailback, they've drafted Ki Jana Carter-(over-all first pick) the year before he arrived---Rudi Johnson, because Dillon quit trying & wanted out---Cris Perry-(beat to death by the Mich St. Spartans)--Kenny Irons--(2nd round this year)--All injured, & Rudi's playing on a bad ham string. Kenny Watson is it! The line's banged up--blah blah blah--Sorry, I know--Every team has injuries, but this is rediculous!--LOL! We'll hopefully have a pretty good game on Sunday! I'm sure the Cards will show up, but will we?--P.S.--Larry Fitzgerald ROXX!!

http://www.kffl.com/hotw/NFL?page=0& the real kick in the teeth is--E.J.Henderson--MLB--Vikings was our #3 guy at ILB. They had to cut him, to make room for Odell & Ahmad Brooks. He's probably going to the NFC Pro-Bowl team. Taking that into account, Cincy's Defense should be killing people! But they cut Brian Simmons, lost David Pollock, Thurman got suspended, So, in comes Ahmad Brooks, still learning the job, & gets injured on a bone-head play! & now our #3 guy is going to be a Pro-Bowler! That kinda makes me sick, to think about it! What would have, or could have beens don't win football games!:homer:
