Why would they tag him? They can sign Alex Smith, a proven winner, for 20 million next year.

"Proven winner" lol. Can't win a playoff game. Ultimate game manager. Mediocre QB. Pass.

A good example of tongue-in-cheek irony and sarcasm---not to be taken literally.

You want to shut down the 'Alex Smith' conversation on the 'Smith vs Gabbert' thread so you bring up Alex Smith on the 'Cousins vs Stafford' thread instead. LOL

Well, I'll see your Alex Smith and raise you 4 more so you can at least get your facts straight:

Alex Smith is 2-4 in playoff games.

One of the best playoff games ever with Smith/SF beating New Orleans:

The Kyle Williams fumble disasters. 17-17 into overtime and Giants make FG off fumble:

A loss but Smith established the KC passing TD record for a playoff game (passing Joe Montana)

KC wins with overpowering D vs Texans:

KC vs Steelers, 2016. Smith ties game in 4th but holding call vs OL takes tying points off board:

Stop repeating the stereotype on this guy and look at the stats and the replays.

You still haven't explained why KC just drafted Mahomes. They finally figured out they can't win with Alex Smith. Don't say it's his age because he's only 33. I'd take Blake Bortles or Tyrod Taylor over Alex Smith all day every day.

Andy Reid/KC must have had a huge grade on Mahomes to make the trade they did.

I think your speculation that KC has figured out that they can't win with Alex Smith is probably a big part of why they did the trade up. Alex Smith got them into the playoffs and even won a game---but his record with them of 41-20 isn't good enough. Go figure. They are going to be able to evaluate Mahomes with Smith still under contract.

You can have BOTH Blake Bortles and Tyrod Taylor and I'll take Alex Smith. (Check out BA's list of qualities he looks for in a QB and see which of the three hits on more traits.)

Did you have a chance to watch the replays of Alex Smith in playoff action?

Maybe KC didn't like the fact that despite the team record of 41 and 20 Alex Smith pedestrian play in his 3 playoff games where they were 1 and 2 got them thinking that maybe the 41 and 20 record wasn't because of Alex Smith, it was despite Alex Smith. Trent Dilfer has a winning record and a SB ring. Goes to show you that the best D and running game in the league can do for you if you have a little heart. Unfortunately unlike Dilfer Smith doesn't have the heart.

You don't think a great owner like Dan Snyder might really like Smith.

A little much on your emotional reaction of who and what you think Alex Smith is as a QB. Please provide some supporting evidence---be it game tape or coach statements/teammate statements---that supports your imagination that Smith "doesn't have the heart."

Was it the comeback win while he was QB for SF vs New Orleans?

Was it the 4 TDs in a playoff loss that broke Joe Montana's record for KC?

Was it bringing the Chiefs back against the Steelers in the 4th quarter only to have the refs call back the game tying two point try with a phantom holding call vs the OL?

Your 'impression' that Smith "doesn't have the heart" is not a sufficient rationale without objective supporting info.

I have no idea how Dan Snyder evaluates Smith (or any other player). For all I know, he might want you to be his next QB or GM or HC or all three. Synder has tossed huge money to FAs with nothing to show for it but a lighter bank account.

There have been plenty of strange moves made by owners in an attempt to bring in QB talent. Check out the gamble Texas took by signing Oss away from Denver and then how they gave up a 2 pick to get out of the deal the very next year.

Rams trade Bradford for Foles and then follow that up with trading their draft future for Goff.

Who knows what dysfunction exists within ownership that will lead them into desperate gambles and moves? The hope as a Cardinal fan is that SK is sitting on the opportunity when it arises.

Some chime in on this 'Cousins vs Stafford' thread by stating that neither QB is likely to be available. That's too rational---QBs are such rare finds that once a team has a decent guy in place you'd think that a team would do everything to keep that QB and build around him. Instead, you get owners/mgmt who think they know more than the rest of the league and let guys walk----which is the hope when it comes to a young vet like Cousins or Stafford.
