He's not the only guy named Larry Fitzgerald. Fact.

Only 99 jersey numbers are available to the team. The team can't just stop using #11 forever.
Retiring numbers should be reserved for the elite of the elite & that’s Larry.
Opinions are like armpits everyone has a couple & they usually stink.

What numbers have the Cardinals retired? 8 & 40? Many teams no longer do that and it's tough in football but if anyone
    has earned it, it's him.

    Default Elite of the Elite

Yes, Larry will not only receive the ultimate team honor in having his jersey number retired, but it will happen at the most appropriate time following his retirement. Being the oldest operating franchise in the NFL, the Cardinals have removed many numbers from usage and will be hesitant about this honor going forward. It's now reserved for only very special circumstances which is why the Ring Of Honor was started, so that players deserving of an honorarium can be recognized while keeping their jersey number active. It's literally a number game because of larger rosters requiring keeping as many numbers available as possible and those already retired.

But, Larry, is quite special. He is an 'elite of the elite.' His No.11 will be taken out of usage most certainly. He's more than earned it and will be the face of the franchise for many years to come. Another player may never earn that honor so his ceremony day will be one to remember. The longevity of the franchise having endured three city experiences will eventually show this honor to a special player in each location. Besides Larry for the Valley you have Larry Wilson for St.Louis and Charlie Trippi for Chicago. Those are the Cardinals three greatest players, tops in contributions on and off the field involving accomplishments of character, love of and by the fans, and league respect. Larry's time will come but will not be discussed by ownership until his retirement becomes league official. With Wilks having expressed his desire for Larry to play two more seasons we fans may just have to 'cool our heels' on this question. When the Cardinals excel on the field of play this season, Larry just may push his career for the 2019 season if he senses a SB run.
