South Practice - Full Pads
As with the North, not much from the QB's. EJ Manuel had a ball tipped at the line by Ansah and picked off. Showed athletic ability getting outside on a scramble. Landry Jones requested the playbook from the Lions staff 2 weeks before the game, so points for him off the field. I've noted when I've watched Tyler Wilson that at times he gets too wide with his feet (for example the South Carolina game) - he's been working with Chris Weinke with the primary goal to shorten his stride. I think being under center might actually help him. Andre Ellington out injured - Mike James (the U) in. WR's vs DB's Russell Shepard (LSU) a late call up. Guy had next to no production this season and got no separation on two 1 on 1's. Not sure he deserves the late call up, but didn't take advantage of it. Tavarres King (Georgia) - again got separation - want to see him put it all together in the game, but he does look talented. Quinton Patton (La Tech) - went up and grabbed a contested deep ball against Robert Lester. Conner Vernon (Duke) tried a double move against B.W. Webb, but no separation. Terrance Williams (Baylor) - better today and as Mayock pointed out, did need it. Double move against Marc Anthony - had him beat, Anthony held him and then Williams went up and caught the ball anyway. Got on top on B.W. Webb who just grabbed him. More like what I expected to see from him. The TE's (Vance McDonald, Rice; Mychal Rivera, Tennessee and Michael Williams, Alabama) all struggled to separate against physical safety play. CB's: Robert Alford (Southeastern Louisiana) looks very good - all over Shepard and Cobi Hamilton on another route. Can press. B.W. Webb (William and Mary) - I've watched Webb 3 times and although he wasn't tested that much I didn't think he was a top 100 talent. Has had a nice two days though. Williams beat him for speed and he just grabbed him - so need to check the 40 time (although Williams will run very fast) - but all over Vernon on a double move and got turned for the ball late in the route. Broke up a pass to Patton in team drills. J.J. Wilcox (Georgia Southern) - much better today. Former RB who has only played 1 year at safety. Seen him 4 times and he's raw with his angles - but tight to Michael Williams and Shepard. Has upside. Shawn Williams - came up and made a nice tackle on Taylor in team drills. Phyiscal in coverage - as was his college running mate Baccari Rambo. Robert Lester also - good coverage on Patton, just didn't turn for the ball - think he's better as a single high FS though... In the Pit Oday Aboushi (Virginia) Edwards beat him twice - then moved inside to guard and looked much more comfortable stoning Montori Hughes (Tennessee-Martin) twice in a row. Lane Johnson (Oklahoma) - jolted back one time, but otherwise looked really good. Hand use was really good - swatted Edwards hands away and then got into him really nicely. Mayock thinks Fisher is better now, but I think Johnson is very good and there is more upside there with him as he's only played the position for two years. Xavier Nixon (Florida) - at times Nixon has impressed me this year, particularly against Florida State - did a nice job today, sat in his stance and looked good. A bit of an enigma, but has to be pulling people in with his week. Garrett Gilkey (Chadron State) - did an nice job against Dawkins (FSU), particularly a second rep where he just buried him. Haven't seen much of him unfortunately, but I think there's talent there. Larry Warford (Kentucky) - just like the Georgia game this year, dominated John Jenkins - a Mike Mayock "when he gets his hands on you it's over" guy. Got to the second level in team drills and stoned Nico Johnson (Alabama). Looks very good. Terron Armstead (Arkansas-Pine Bluff) - late add and apparently only arrived in Mobile this morning. Beaten by Washington on his first rep - but came back, mirrored and threw the Georgia man down. Jordan Mills (La Tech) played some tackle and some guard - stoned another late add Josh Boyd (Miss St) twice at guard. Locked up Ziggy Ansah. Didn't impress me this much on tape - so a nice week. Dalton Freeman (Clemson) did a nice job sitting and stoning Cory Grissom (USF) twice. Brian Schwenke (Cal) - Mayock loves this guy. Feet a bit wide - could sit in his stance a little more, but he doesn't have a lot of bulk to do so. But still able to anchor today. Hands a bit outside on one rep - but gets after it - stoned Dawkins. Ziggy Ansah (BYU) - looked lost. Didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing and it ended up looking like he was going half speed. Heavy hands shown on tape just weren't there today. Did bat a pass down in team drills. Lavar Edwards (LSU) - backup for LSU but should get drafted like CB Ron Brooks last year. Swam over Aboushi and got a "sack" - but got nothing out of Lane Johnson. Malliciah Goodman (Clemson) - got better as the year went on and had a great Bowl game, but didn't do anything today. Bent at the waist, got off balance and Nixon just buried him. Mills and then Lane Johnson stoned him.

Trade #7 to Giants for #19, 3rd, 2014, 2nd, 5th. Pretty simple the Giants O-Line is bad and Eli is worth the investment...Even though I think he's the most overrated QB in the league. Pick Fisher.
1) Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma, 6-7, 303. If were going OT in the first I want Johnson. Both he and Fisher are well not good in the run game but both can set quickly in pass pro. SD could take him but I think they'll go Sharrif Floyd who would fit them perfect and he's a legit top ten pick. 2) Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida St, 6-2, 210. We have our corners for years. 3) E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida St, 6-5, 234. With this staff's offensive experience they should know real quick if he's our QBOTF. 3) Jonathan Cyprien, SS, Florida International, 6-0, 210. A-Dub should be gone Cyprien is a solid player and he can lay the wood and stay with TE's. 4) David Quessenberry, OG/C, San Jose St, 6-5, 294. Fantastic value but he could and probably will go late 3rd. 5) Marcus Lattimore, RB, S. Carolina, 6-0, 218. Keeping the streak alive as we pick another injured RB. He goes on to I.R. and we get another year of Wells and Williams. 6) Travis Long, OLB, Washington ST, 6-3, 256. 6) (Vikings) Baker Steinkuhler, DE, Nebraska, 6-6, 290. 6) (Marshall) Ryan Allen, P, Louisiana Tech, 6-2, 215. 6) (Vikings) Dustin Hopkins, K, Florida St, 6-2, 190. Doubt BA goes D in the first 3-4 rounds but this is what I'd do. Keim is the wildcard I expect him to really be aggressive in drafts. Even if it's aggressively moving down. I think this is the biggest X factor in the draft is what is Keim going to do? BA wasn’t making the calls during the drafts with the Colts on Manning and Luck, but I posted in another thread that those drafts went offense heavily. I expect him to do the same, however how does Keim feel?
Like the mock, hits about every single need we have outside of SILB and that would be a sweet draft. Rhodes with Peterson is a scary duo. Do you think EJ will fall all the way to the 3rd? After the combine I think he’s bound to rise and will be a early 2nd/late 1st come draft time. Love the Lattimore comments btw. We’ll probably have 6 Rbs on the roster, but 2 will be on IR by the start of the season. |

I don't think the combine is going to help Manuel to much. The film speaks VOLUMES! Sucks I'm spending more time on my 87 teams board more often. But I think as long as the Bidwill's run this team were going nowhere.

I really like the Lattimore pick but don't think he will make it to the 5th round. Someone will be smart and pick him up in the 3rd or 4th round.

Lattimore was good, but I'd like to get a running back someday who hasn't spent the majority of the last year out injured - any running back. They are so short lived as it is unless they are huge men.
